“iLab exerciseshelp me get aheadand to make themost out of class”

Name: Shingo Miyamura Age: 24 years oldFrom: Osaka, JapanEF School: BournemouthEF Course: Academic Year withIELTS Preparation Course

Why EF? I came to EF because Iwanted to improve my English sothat I could realize a major careerchange. I liked the size of the EFBournemouth school – smallenough to get the attention I need-ed to improve my English and bigenough to meet students from allover the world.

What part of the EF method doenjoy the most? I like using theiLab to practice and review. It really helps that there is a linkbetween what we learn in classand what exercises are available inthe iLab. By keeping up on myiLab exercises I can make themost out of my time in class. Ibelieve this is a good way for meto learn quite efficiently.

Individualized attention

EF’s personalized attention begins as soon as you con-

assess your current language abilities to help you de-

strengths and weaknesses. During your course, your

EF Advisor helps devise your academic plan and

Exceptional teachers

We know the difference a great teacher makes in lan-

guage learning. All EF teachers hold specialist teach-

ing qualifications and have an average of seven years

of teaching experience. Additionally, all are trained in

the EF Efekta™ System. But, what makes EF teach-

ers truly exceptional is that they are hand-selected for

their personality, enthusiasm, creativity – and their

commitment to sharing your success.

The widest selection of academic subjects

During your EF Academic Year Abroad, take lessons of

your choice in addition to general language instruc-

tion. This way, build your language fluency at the same

time that you build your knowledge in topics that gen-

uinely interest you. See a list of samples on p. 9.

The EF Efekta™ iLab – reinforce your learning

Traditional language lab learning often means studying

by yourself with books and audio tapes – but not at EF!

We have equipped our schools with hundreds of com-

puters and state-of-the-art multimedia language labs

(iLabs), offering interactive tutorials. These on-line

tutorials are synchronized with both your EF textbook

units and your face-to-face classroom topics. When

questions arise, your teacher is there in the iLab to help.

“Living in a hostfamily has madea lasting impres-sion on my life.”

Name: Andrés CárdenasAge: 20 years oldFrom: Bogotá, ColumbiaEF School: Boston and NiceEF Course: Academic Year

Why EF? Last year I had theopportunity to do an AcademicYear in Boston. The fact that Ilearned English so successfullywith EF in the US made me wantto try the same experience in adifferent setting like Nice.

What is it like to live in a homestay? At both EF schools Ihave lived in host families. In both cases I had the feeling that theAccommodation Manager reallytook the time to find a suitablehost for me and that the schoolreally cares about the quality oftheir host families. My host familiesreally have worked hard to makeme feel at home. I enjoy cookingand eating together, ice skating, rollerblading and trips to thebeach. All these moments havebeen unforgettable and made animpression on my life.

EF Homestay

Living in a private home offers a warm and secure way

to immerse yourself in the daily life of your new coun-

try. Contact with your hosts will enrich your under-

standing of local culture and customs. Pick up idioms

and expressions with ease, and your accent will sound

more authentic. Accommodation Managers at each

school have a strong network of local families who

welcome international students into their homes. Our

experienced accommodation staff carefully screen

every homestay application and conduct personal

interviews with prospective families in their homes.

EF International House

Enhance the experience of studying alongside students

from 100 countries by living with them in one of EF’s

International Houses. A truly international environ-

ment awaits you in these comfortable and modern res-

idences with helpful staff living onsite. This convenient

accommodation option can be found onsite at such

schools as Boston, Miami Beach, Perth and Brighton.

University Student Residences

Live alongside local students while studying on or

near the campus of a college or university. Campuses

range from traditional to laid-back, and big-city feel-

ing to small town USA. In the UK, live on the

grounds of 800-year-old Cambridge University. In

France, it’s the cosmopolitan lifestyle of Université de

Nice. In the USA big-city schools include New York’s

Marymount College and EF San Francisco at Mills

College. If the laid-back campus life is where you

want to be, then beachside Alliant University in San

Diego may be for you, or EF Seattle offering big-city

access on the cozy Evergreen State College campus.

EF Student Residences and Apartments

Are you looking for a more independent and flexible

living option? Off-site residences and apartments offer

central locations within convenient traveling distance

to your EF school, often with a tv room, kitchen area,

or a cafeteria for meals. See pages 22-61 to find out

what options are available at your school!

EF – your homeaway from home Feeling at home is an important part of your course. At EF we

offer you the widest selection of accommodation options so

that where you live is truly your choice.

EF students love our on-site cafeterias not only due to theconvenient and tasty meals served up each day, but alsobecause lunch hour is the best time to make new friends!
