MANUAL - AUTOMATIC FLOAT BATTERY CHARGER AND D.C SOURCE
The battery charger shall have nominal voltage 110 v DC. It will be
three phase AC
Supply Voltage.
It will have float charging and high rate charging regimes
operating on the principle of
constant voltage output. The charger must have the possibility of
both manual and
automatic switching over from one regime to the other one depending
on the state of
battery bank. The charger shall have soft start features.
The output voltage, at any regime, must be adjustable and stable
within the specified
range when the output current is varied from 0% to 100% of its
rated value, AC supply
voltage and/or frequency within the specified ranges.
The charger output current must be automatically limited to the
specified value, up to
40% loss of battery voltage (e.g. 40% of cells are shorted).
A control unit must be added so that the load supply voltage is
regulated 110 ± 2% VDC
independent on the charger output without any instantaneous
interruption of load supply.
The charger rectifier bridge and main transformer shall be rated
for the required charger
rated output current of 40 A, this output shall feed both battery
charging and load which
are connected in parallel at charger output.
The charger must be equipped with a DC voltage regulating unit for
feeding the control,
signal and protection circuits of medium voltage switch board
within the specified
voltage range at either battery float or high rate charging
regime.
The charger is to be equipped on all sides (input and output) with
circuit breakers (MCB)
having thermal and magnetic releases on all poles and with the
following specification:
– AC supply side (AC, 3 phase) suitable for protecting charger with
output (MCB
63 A.Breaking current 16 KA ).
– Battery side (DC) suitable for max. charging current of ( 2 Pole
MCB 50 A
– 10KA).
– Load side (DC) suitable for max. load of ( 2 Pole MCB 40 A – 10
KA).

THE CHARGER SHALL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS:
1- AC supply voltage 3 phase 50 c/s, 380 V ± 15%
2- Output DC voltage:
a) Float charging 90 to 135 (to be set at 128.8 V)
b) High rate charging 90 to 160 (to be set at 147.2 V)
c) Load voltage 110 ± 2%
d) Charger output current adjustable range 25 A – 40 A
3- Output DC voltage static stability ± 1% at variation of :
Output DC current from 0% to 100% its nominal value (40 A)

Input AC voltage from 85% to 110% of its nominal value (380) V
.
Nominal frequency by ± 3%
4- Ripple voltage
b) Battery not connected < 2% of DC
5- Insulation > 2 KV AC for one minute
between input/output and earth.

8- D.C voltage regulation for feeding the load shall be with
transistor voltage
regulation with voltage accuracy ± 2% .
9- D.C output suitable for digital protection relays.
10- The output DC voltage of the charger shall not be affected by
reversing of
the phase sequence.
11- The charger is to be connected permanently in parallel with
battery and
feeding at the same time the DC load.

12- The charger shall be equipped with the following protection,
control,
indication and alarm and metering devices.
PROTECTION
– Input CB (provide with over load and short circuit
protection).
– Varistors (AC surge suppression).
– Reverse polarity.
– Three output circuit breakers 6 KA(double pole) one for load ,
the other
for battery and third for emergency lighting charging (provided
with over
current and short circuit protection).
– Under voltage on battery side.
Charge side
– Semi-conductor fuses for thyristors.
– Blocking diodes, to prevent battery discharge in case of bridge
failure.
Trip actions
– Low voltage (under voltage on battery).
– Charger failure – AC failure.
– Any circuit breaker trip.

CONTROL
Setting for all parameters:
Metering and indication
– AC voltmeter with selectors switch.
– One DC ammeters ( for battery& for load).
– Charging failure (red light) and free contact for remote
alarm.
– AC circuit breaker trip (light).
– Light for each operating mode (float / high rate).
– DC earth fault.
The charger Shall be equipped with the following communication
(option):
– At least 4 programmable relays.
– Modbus communication RS232 and RS485 ( full monitor and control
).

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS
– Maintenance and repair during guarantee period (5 years) shall be
at site.
– D.C. output independent on input phase sequence or the phase
sequence shall be
automatically changed inside charger to suit required sequence for
the charger.
– Indicating lamps (on front of charger panel) test facility is
preferred to be provided.
– Output voltage is smoothed by LC filtration to reach ripple
requirements.
– Snapper circuit and surge suppression devices output protection
should be provided.
– Detailed catalogues with full specifications and drawings shall
be attached with the offer.
– A sample of charger shall be inspected and tested and should be
accepted by …EDC before
manufacturing of chargers.
– Charger is suitable for alkaline or acidic batteries of nominal
volts. 110 volts
– Nominal output current rating of charger 50 A.D.C.
– Input voltage 3x380v-3 wires (±15 %) 3phas, (50 c/s ± 3 %)
– Ambient temperature up to 45 ºC or according to the distribution
company requirements.
Operating modes: Automatic and manual using auto/manual selector
switch.

– One AC voltmeter (as delivered ) .
– One DC voltmeter (as delivered ) .
