THE MINISTER’S MUSINGS...
Dear Friends,
What does it mean to be a mem-
ber of a congregation? It can
mean different things for differ-
ent people.
For some, it is like belonging to a
social club. There is just a desire
to be among other mostly like-
minded people. There is a desire
to make connections, have fun.
And that is all.
For others, it is like a social
agency. It’s a place where they
can get a handout, or provide as-
sistance to those in need.
To others it means being among
a body of believers who have
claimed Jesus Christ as their
Lord and Savior, who desire to
worship God, nurture disciples,
and serve God’s people. They
desire to grow in their spiritual
walk. They desire to deepen
their understanding of who God
is and how God is present in
their lives.
There are those who strive to ful-
ly integrate their faith in their
daily living, who respond to God
by using their gifts and talents to
the glory of God, who provide of-
ferings to God to support the var-
ious ministries of the congrega-
tion in which God has led.
When new members join the
church, the motion usually put
before the Session is, “That
(Name) be received as a full com-
muning member of the congrega-
tion with all the rights, privileg-
es, and responsibilities that go
with that membership.”
I wonder… do you know what
your rights are as a member of
the congregation? Do you know
what privileges you have? How
about your responsibilities… do
you know what they are?
It might be interesting to check it
out in the New Testament as
well as the Presbyterian Church
Book of Order. It may make for
some interesting reading.
I am grateful that so many are a
part of our two congregation who
take seriously the meaning of
being members of the congrega-
tion.
Remember to love the Lord your
God, love your neighbor, serve
the Lord with gladness, be gener-
ous with your time, talent, and
financial offerings, worship God,
avoid temptation, and seek the
presence of the Lord wherever
you may be.
Sursum Corda,
Mark

PROPERTY MINISTRY
First of all thank you to everyone that came out and helped make
the Church Cleanup Day a great success. By 9am on Saturday
the 13th of April we had a big crew together that was ready to get
busy cleaning the church. There were people working in the fel-
lowship hall cleaning the windows, testing smoke alarms and car-
bon monoxide detectors. People were checking outlets and emer-
gency exit signs, identifying which ones needed to be replaced. On
the outside of the church we had pressure washers going on the
exterior walls of the church and the sidewalks along with spray-
ing bleach on the sidewalks to give them a little extra sparkle.
Also there were people pruning bushes and sago palms. Then
there was a whole other crew working in the sanctuary cleaning
the bathrooms, pews and windows. We took a short break for
lunch where we had pizza and salads. All in all it was a great
day. Thank you again. – Greg Machmiller
