Vol 2. No 5 August 25, 2015
This week we welcomed a visiting Rotarian from Upcoun-
try Rotary, Naomi Grimes.
Tonight’s joke of the week, which was won by Keith D.
last week, was presented by
Mary W. which brought
laughter throughout the
room. President Irene sur-
prised all of the Rotarians by
asking the Sergeant at Arms
to inspect Rotary Pins. If a Rotarian was caught without a
pin they were fined $1.
President Irene began hap-
py bucks because she was
able to shake hands with RI
President Ravindran at the
convention this weekend,
which she says was an
“incredible event.” Happy bucks continued with Anne P.
who went to southern California to visit her mother-in-
law. Damon W. was happy to make it to rotary and that
this week begins soccer for his children. John S. was also
happy to shake hands with our RI President as well as be-
ing able to see Diana Krall in concert. Bruce P. was happy
that his wife was happy about visiting his family. Steve F.
was able to escape the heat and go to Tahoe for a photo
shoot. Dick C. was $5 happy that Jimmy W. talked shop
and answered a question he had. Art L. was happy that he
and his wife, Barbara, went to Monterey. They brought
their daughter and her friend and spent the night in
Santa Cruz. Sharon finished 1st in her age group at
a race! Great job Sharon!

Back from the meeting with R.I President Ravi
Ravindran and Presidential Dinner at the Atlantis in
Reno. 600 Rotarians + the exchange students were
present at the dinner We left Leopold at the address
(Tim Lukas' house) where the inbound students were
hosted since all the rooms at the Atlantis were sold
out.
They were welcomed by Jon Greene, RYE Executive
Secretary for the Orientation Weekend. Leopold
must have taken pictures he certainly will share with
us for his album on our club website. Being the enor-
mous number of Districts in the Rotary World
(about 580 which would be impossible for the R.I P
to visit all), we can consider the presence of R.I Pres-
ident's Ravi Ravindran and his gracious wife Vanathy
at our 5091 District a rare privilege and significant
honor, really an Evening to Remember.
At the private hosted reception of Major Donors, I
received my Major Donor pin
and engraved crystal from the
hands of Rotary President In-
ternational Ravi. This is, of
course, a highlight in my pres-
idential year and general Rota-
ry trajectory.
After the President's reception at the Atlantis Paradise
Terrace we had an musical pre-dinner entertainment
from Great Basin Brass ensemble, the opening ceremo-
nies announced by our dynamic D.G. Gail Ellingwood,
like the Flags Presentation and national Anthems of
America and Shri Lanka by the Club Scout Pack 154 of
Troop 154.
After Kurt Mische from the R.C. of Reno pronounced
the Thought for the Evening we enjoyed a delicious din-
ner. After dinner we heard a chamber musical entertain-
ment of 4 young musicians of the Reno Philharmonic
Youth Orchestra String Quartet who interpreted Mozart
and other components with talent and mastership.
DID YOU KNOW… It has now been a full year since any wild polio virus cases have been found and Nigeria
has been removed from the endemic list. This has been made possible through your donations to the Paul
Harris Foundation’s Polio Plus Campaign!
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE (cont from page 2)
After which was introduced our Keynote Speaker DG Gail Elling-
wood who talked about the incredible privilege to welcome Presi-
dent Ravi at our District and the significance of this visit.
The Keynote Address "Be a Gift to the World" was by K.R. "Ravi"
Ravindran, President Rotary International. His message stressed: "
The diversity of Rotarians in race, creeds and politics, but our we
are all Rotarians encouraged to focus on things that matter: helping
each of us find our own way to be a gift to the world with integrity,
trustworthiness, care and compatibility to our fellow humans.
Our friends are not necessary the people who are most like us but
the ones who complement us, who bring out the best in us. That, to
me, is precisely what we can find in Rotary"
President Ravi , as his country's national Polio Plus Chair, working closely with Unicef and Rotary, successfully
negotiated a ceasefire with the northern militants during National Immunization Days. He courageously spoke to
INTERACT
Here is my latest picture of the meeting with a group of high school
girls wanting to set up Interact. It was a great meeting. Jim Wil-
marth came after the Hwy clean-up and gave some good infor-
mation. Adelaide Cahill will come to our club tomorrow. They will
have their first meeting on September 31.
HOPE IS HEARING THE MUSIC IN THE FUTURE
The Rotary Club of Tahoe Incline is collecting used hearing aids for over 30 children at a school for the deaf in
Northwest Tanzania. Batteries are available at the school and in most cases onsite hearing aid specialists can repair
non functioning hearing aids.
The project is enthusiastically endorsed by Bishop Kilani of the Bukoba Diocese in Tanzania, the Rotary Club of
Bukoba, IZAAS, the Islamic charity founded by Mr. Raza Fazel, the Lutheran community of Bukoba, and govern-
ment officials.

Tahoe Incline Rotarians are scheduled to depart for Tanzania the second week in November. Please send hearing
aids by Oct. 20th, to: W. W. Schaefer, P. O. Box 6374, Incline Village, NV 89450.
