Celebrating the 300thbirthday of Leopold Mozart
Mit dem 10. Internationalen Violinwettbewerb Leopold Mozart 2019 feiert die Deutsche Mozartstadt Augsburg im Jahr des 300. Geburtstags von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts Vater ein ganz besonderes Jubiläum.
Leopold Mozart war gebürtiger Augsburger und später nicht nur Vater, sondern gleichzeitig Lehrer, Manager und Mentor seines berühmten Sohnes und man kann behaupten: Ohne Leopold kein Wolfgang. 1756, dem Jahr von Wolfgangs Geburt, veröffentlichte Leopold Mozart in Augsburg seine legendäre „Gründliche Violinschule“. Gleich zwei so bedeutende Schöpfungen in einem Jahr! Die Violinschule ist nicht nur ein großartiges Lehrwerk und Zeugnis der herausragenden musikalischen Fähigkeiten Leopolds, sondern gleichzeitig ein einzigartiges Kompendium des Violinspiels und Spiegel der musikalischen Praxis der Mozartzeit.
Es war Leopold Mozarts Vision, sein Wissen an nachfolgende Generationen weiterzugeben und hochtalentierte junge Musiker zu fördern.
Dieses Erbe trägt der Internationale Violinwettbewerb Leopold Mozart heute in seiner Geburtsstadt weiter. Bedeutende Musiker/innen wie Isabelle Faust, Benjamin Schmid oder Lena Neudauer haben in Augsburg den Grundstein für eine Weltkarriere gelegt. Wer ist der nächste junge Mozart?

Die Proben des Kammermusikwerkes in der Zweiten Runde sind öffentlich und werden bewertet. Hierbei fließt die Persönlichkeit des/der Kandidaten/in, die Interaktion mit anderen Musikern, soziale Kompetenz und Kommuni kation sowie die Fähigkeit, in begrenzter Zeit ein Werk mit anderen zu erarbeiten, in die Bewertung mit ein. Das restliche Programm der Zweiten Runde ist frei wählbar. Hier wird auf die Kompetenz geachtet, ein Programm künstlerisch sinnvoll und abwechslungsreich zu gestalten.
Im Finale stehen sowohl eines der großen romantischen Violinkonzerte als auch ein Konzert von Mozart auf dem Programm. Beide Violinkonzerte werden von den Kandidaten/innen am gleichen Tag gespielt. Begleitet werden die Finalisten/innen dabei vom Münchner Rundfunkorchester, einem Klangkörper von Weltrang!

Der Internationale Violinwettbewerb Leopold Mozart ist kein Wettbewerb wie jeder andere! Die 10. Auflage setzt zum Jubiläum in vielen entschei-denden Elementen neue Standards: Nur 24 Bewerber/innen werden zum Wettbewerb eingeladen, aktive und ehemalige Studierende der Jury-mitglieder sind dabei nicht zugelassen. Damit stellt der Augsburger Wett-bewerb bereits vor Beginn hohe qualitative Anforderungen. In den komprimierten drei Wettbewerbs-runden müssen die Teilnehmer/innen neu konzipierte Herausforderungen meistern, bei denen neben den technisch- musikalischen auch die persönlichen Kompetenzen bewertet werden. Damit hebt sich der Internationale Violinwettbewerb Leopold Mozart Augsburg 2019 von allen anderen Wettbewerben in besonderer Weise ab.
Das moderne Auftragswerk wird bereits in der Ersten Runde gespielt, in der die Teilnehmer/innen aber auch mit Bach, Paganini und Mozart ihr Können unter Beweis stellen.
With the 10th International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart 2019 the German Mozart City Augsburg will observe the 300th anniversary of the birth of the father of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – a special cause for celebration.
Leopold Mozart was a native Augsburger and not only father to his famous son but at the same time also teacher, manager and mentor. One could say, “No Leopold, no Wolfgang”. In 1756, the same year Wolfgang was born, Leopold Mozart published his legendary “Fundamental Principles of Playing the Violin”. Two such significant creations in a single year! The violin tutor is not only a fantastic textbook and a testimony to Leopold’s outstanding musical ability, it is also a unique compendium of violin playing and the musical practice at the time of Mozart.
It was Leopold Mozart’s vision to pass his knowledge on to future generations and to encourage highly talented young musicians. Today, this legacy is borne further in his home town by
the International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart. Prominent musicians such as Isabelle Faust, Benjamin Schmid and Lena Neudauer have laid the foundation for an international career. Who will the next young Mozart be?

We’re looking for outstanding musical personalities!
The International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart is not a competition like every other! The upcoming one in 2019 is the tenth and for this jubilee many pivotal new standards have been set. Only 24 candidates will be invited to the competition; active and former students of jury members will not be admitted. Thus, the stringent require-ments of the Augsburg competition are emphasized right the outset. In the three condensed competition rounds, participants must master new challen-ges which have been conceived to exhi-bit not only musical and technical but also personal competence. In this way the International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart stands out uniquely in contrast to other competitions.
The modern commissioned piece is one of the requirements in the beginning round. Candidates will also prove their skill in this round with pieces by Bach, Paganini and Mozart.
Rehearsals for the chamber music piece in the second round are open to the public and will be part of the evaluation. Many elements play a role here: the candidate's personality, his or her interaction with other musicians, social and communication competence as well as the ability to develop a piece in a limited amount of time. All these aspects will enter into the jury's assessment.The rest of the program for the second round is freely selectable. This will demonstrate the candidate's aptitude for creating a varied program which makes artistic sense.
The program for the final round consists of one of the great romantic violin concertos as well as a concerto by Mozart. Both violin concertos will be played by the candidate on the same day. The finalists will be accompanied by an orchestra of world renown: the Munich Radio Orchestra!
