Welcome!

We are very pleased that you have chosen to study at the Arts University College at Bournemouth. The University College offers assistance to students with the academic elements of their programme, however we do not provide (on course) formal English teaching on campus. We therefore require that all students meet our recommended English language levels or attend additional language courses at our partner institution, Anglo-Continental School of English, prior to their University College course.

Anglo-Continental, founded in 1950, is a leading English language teaching organisation which is fully accredited by The British Council. It is a family run organisation with attractive buildings which is located just over 3 kilometres from the University College.

If you cannot undertake one of Anglo-Continentalʼs courses for acertain length of time or wish to study elsewhere, you will need to meet our recommended level of English to obtain an unconditional place.

If you have not yet achieved the recommended level of English you will need to concentrate fully on your English skills to ensure that you reach the level in time for the start of the new academic year. Our courses commence in September only, so if you do not achieve the recommended level or start one of the Anglo-Continental course options at the required date, you will probably have to defer your place until the following academic year.

Why study at Anglo-Continental?

1. Partnership

Anglo-Continental School of English is our partner institution. Therefore if you have an unconditional place we are able to offer a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS*) to cover both your courses at the University College and at your English course at Anglo Continental.

You have the choice to study English at a different local language school. However, if you require a visa, you will have to apply for a separate visa for the language course and then apply for a second visa for your course at the University College.

2. IELTS Tests

Although you do not have to undertake another IELTS test at the end of the required study period, you are required to complete the language course successfully. If your class assessments show that you are not progressing as expected through poor attendance of lack of engage-ment with the course you may not meet the condition of your course at the University College. Please note: It is very important that you attend all of your classes as this is a condition of your visa and the Home Office will be informed if you miss a number of classes.

There are two major benefits for you to study at Anglo-Continental.

English language level proof

All students with English as a second language need to meet the recommended level of English stated for each programme. Please refer to the following pages on course levels and language requirements.

In addition to the English tests listed below, there are many different tests that we can accept. Please contact us with your official English test results to see if they meet the recommended level of English for the programme that you wish to follow.

To obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa you will need a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) from a recognised Sponsor in the UK and proof of funding plus sufficient maintenance for your course. The University College and Anglo-Continental have been recognised by the UK Government as Highly Trusted Sponsors.

If you have accepted our unconditional offer* and paid your required deposit (currently £1500) the University College will issue your CAS to cover both your course at the University College and your English course at Anglo-Continental.

If you have a conditional offer, you will need to apply for a Tier 4 (General) student visa with a CAS from Anglo-Continental for your English course. Once you have successfully completed your English course and are granted an unconditional offer, you will be issued with a CAS from the University College to enable you to apply for a new visa. You can start your course at the university college while you are waiting for your second visa to be processed.

If you need a visa
