The Public Education and Foal Auction brings together horse owners and veterinarians to expand their knowledge of the equine industry by some of the leading experts in the state, equine faculty at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.

The goal of the educational event is to provide information for horse own-ers and veterinarians that will enrich their relationship with their horses with care, training and breeding practices.

The auction, held in the Bartlett Lameness Arena, features mares and weanlings used by the college’s Equine Service that have provided clinical experience for students in animal Theriogenology, including reproduction, and caring for the mare and her foal during and after pregnancy.

Proceeds the auction and dinner donations ($5 suggested donation per meal) benefit the Auburn University Student Society for Theriogeneology Club and the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine Equine Service. The student chapter of the Society for Theriogenology provides opportunities for veterinary students to expand their knowledge and experi-ence of theriogenology,

Lexi came to Auburn after a brief career in dressage and low jumpers. She has raced as evidenced by a lip tattoo, but nothing is known about her past. She will make an excellent Sport Horse broodmare and is currently in foal to Auburn’s Oldenburg stallion, Sting (due in May). Her thoroughbred history makes her more suitable for an experienced horse person. Her foal has the potential to excel in any English event including dressage, eventing, or hunters.

Catalina is a beautiful filly with excellent blood lines. Her sire, Catapepto, has shown NCHA (National Cutting Horse Association) and has won a total of $12,753. Catalina has a spunky personality that will make her stand out. She has the potential and breeding to excel in performance western events including NCHA and AQHA events.

Catalina is currently enrolled in the handling/training class through Animal Science.  Upon graduation in November, she will load in a trailer, stand to tie, clip, back up, stand to have her feet trimmed, walk and trot in hand, over poles, over a tarp, and lunge at the walk and trot both directions.

TRICK

Full Name: Auburn’s Trick Play

Date of Birth: April 1, 2015 Breed: Paint

Color: Bay, solid Sex: Gelding

Trick was born on April Fool’s Day and is a solid paint, thus earning his name. What he lacks in color, he makes up for in personality and breeding. He is out of Auburn’s own Paint Horse stallion Delta Dynamo Bar (Mo). Mo is a grandson of Doc O’Lena (sire) and Delta Flyer (dam). He was used as a working cow horse prior to his arrival at Auburn. Trick’s dam is equally well bred which make this sweet colt capable of almost anything. He has a great attitude and willing spirit.

Trick is currently enrolled in the handling/training class through Animal Science.  Upon graduation in November, he will load in a trailer, stand to tie, clip, back up, stand to have his feet trimmed, walk and trot in hand, over poles, over a tarp, and lunge at the walk and trot both directions.

Magnet is a favorite among all the foals due to his sweet personality. He is built for speed and should excel in speed events. Magnet’s sire is the beauti-ful Frenchmen’s Maximum whose offspring are already showing promise in barrel racing training. His dam, Polite Lil Chic has a pedigree that includes Smart Chic Olena and Bugs Alive in 75. This colt has a lot of chrome and has the attitude to be very trainable.

Date of Birth: May 12, 2005 Breed: Thoroughbred

Color: Bay Sex: Mare

Tough was retired from racing at the age of 4 and arrived at Auburn from New York. She has been a member of our recipient herd and is now looking for a permanent home. She has successfully carried pregnancies. Tough will make an outstanding Sport Horse broodmare prospect. She will be sold with a breeding to any of Auburn’s available stallions for next season. Because she is an off the track thoroughbred, she is not for an inexperi-enced horse owner. She has not been ridden since she arrived at Auburn and her reason for retirement from racing is unknown (injury status).

Kaliber is by Auburn’s now deceased jumper stallion, Francisco El Hombre and out of our holsteiner/ thoroughbred mare, Misskhanduct (Khani). Francisco is a Columbian Sport Horse and has left his mark. His foals are extremely athletic and good natured. Francisco competed at 1 meter 60 consistently. This foal could easily compete in jumper or eventing circuits.

SUGAR

Sugar has been a part of Auburn’s teaching herd for almost eight years. She is as sweet as her name and has served our students well. She has also served as a nurse mare for many orphan foals (will be returning to Auburn just in time for this sale). It is time to retire her to the permanent home she deserves. Sugar has arthritis, but is likely sound enough for trail riding (she has not been ridden since coming to Auburn). She also suffers from COPD (respiratory problems) in the summer, so pasture turnout would be the best environment for her. This beautiful mare would be an excellent babysitter for young horses. All that know her have fallen in love with her.
