PMA 2014 CONFERENCECALL FOR PAPERS 3

The theme for PMA 2014 is Designing the High-Performing Orga-nization. Exploring the latest thinking and research into design of, strategy & governance for, management of continuously relevant and responsible organizations in the age of big data, the confe-rence will feature a blend of keynote and plenary presentations, parallel streams that include one for graduate student research, and discussion groups.

About the PMAThe Performance Measurement Association is a global network for those interested in the theory and practice of performance measurement and management. It is a voluntary network with a multidisciplinary constituency covering accounting, economics, engineering, finance, HR, IT, logistics, marketing, operations, purchasing, sales, strategy etc. Its development and continued growth is overseen by a board of leading academics in the fields of performance measurement and management. The ability to share knowledge and pool resources is fundamental, enabling members to keep up to date in a field that is developing and moving at a rapid rate. For more information on the PMA, please visit www.performanceportal.org.

AimThe aim of the PMA conference is to bring together those who want to explore and better understand the role that performance measurement and management plays in improving organizational design and performance. No other conference better facilitates dialogue in the field of performance measurement, providing such a rare opportunity for academics and practitioners to meet and exchange ideas. The highly successful PMA series of conferences has been running since 1998.

Typically up to one third of participants at the PMA conference come from practice, while two thirds are drawn from acade-mia. Attendees come from all over the globe and have diverse backgrounds and perspectives, which makes the event particu-larly fascinating given the diversity of views held and shared by participants.

OrganizationThe conference is organised on behalf of the Performance Ma-nagement Association (PMA) by the University of Cambridge and Aarhus University. The conference co-chairs are Professor Andy Neely from the University of Cambridge, and Professors Rick Edgeman and Jacob Eskildsen of Aarhus University.

The principal aim of the conference is to provide a unique inter-disciplinary and international forum for the exchange of cutting-edge knowledge and research about organizational performance measurement within both the public and private sectors. If you would like to participate, please register your interest on the conference website.

Who should attend?Delegates and presenters are expected from a range of academic disciplines, as well as the business and public sector communities.

Anyone interested in performance measurement – either from a research or practice perspective – will find PMA 2014 a stimulating and rewarding conference in which to participate.

PMA 2014 CONFERENCE CALL FOR PAPERS6

AarhAARHUS AS LOCATION

Aarhus is a dynamic and compact city with a city population of approximately 315,000 and 1.2 million in greater Aarhus. Aarhus is a business hub, a cultural center, and an exceptional holiday destination for families.

Arguably the oldest permanent settlement in Denmark, Aarhus is home to such attractions as ARoS, a renowned art museum; Den Gamle By, an open air museum set in the era of Hans Christian Andersen; and the Moesgaard Musuem – a Viking-era themed museum that is home to perhaps the world’s most famous bog man, the Grauballe Man.

At the same time, Aarhus is Denmark’s youngest city, being home to more than 40,000 university students. Families will find long stretches of publicly accessible Baltic coastline, Tivoli Friheden amusement park and gardens, and Marselisborg Palace – the summer home of Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II, who attended both Aarhus University and the University of Cambridge.

Numerous other attractions including Legoland are in or near Aarhus. Participants may select from airports located in Aarhus, Billund, Copenhagen, or Aalborg, all of which have convenient connections into Aarhus Centrum by rail or bus.

usasAarhus UniversityAarhus University was established in 1928 as a small private ini-tiative. It has since grown to become a leading public research university with international reach covering the entire research spectrum. The university offers unique opportunities to conduct research in an environment that promotes creativity and auto-nomy, and where interdisciplinary collaboration is a natural part of all research activities.

The buildings and the University ParkThe buildings of The University of Aarhus are located within and fringing the University Park, which has expanded somewhat over the years. The first building to be finished in 1933 stands on a projecting promontory on the eastern edge of the natural hol-low, and today houses a number of the Social Science subjects.

With only slight modifications, the architectural style in the Univer-sity Park has been sustained since the time when the architects Kay Fisker, C F Møller and Povl Stegmann won the architecture competition launched in 1931. Since 1939 C F Møller’s has been re-sponsible for building projects. The harmonious balance between the undulating park and the homogeneous style of building crea-tes a beautiful campus that has achieved international renown.

The characteristic yellow-brick buildings in the University Park have a total floor area of 246,000 square metres. In addition to this, the university occupies a number of buildings outside of the park with a further floor area of 59,000 square metres.

A new building housing five lecture theatres was opened in 2001. The walls and ceilings inside the building feature a major painting by the artist Per Kirkeby.

Aarhus City HallThe conference opening reception will be held at Aarhus City Hall. Aarhus City Hall was inaugurated 2 June 1941, and it was drawn by architects Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller. The decision to build a city hall was taken during a city hall meeting in 1937. As one of just a few Danish city halls it was marked for preservation in March 1994 because of its unique architecture.

On the first proposal the plans did not include a tower but due to massive public pressure it was later added to the drawings. In January 2006 the city hall was included in the Danish Culture Kanon under architecture.

ARoSThe conference dinner will be held at ARoS. ARoS is a 5 star museum and is the main art museum in Aarhus and one of the largest museums in Northern Europe. On the roof of ARoS you can also visit Your rainbow panorama from here you can move around in a 150 metre long, circular panoramic path with 360º views of the surrounding city.

In the downstairs area you can enjoy the major special exhibitions, with the ’The 9 Spaces’ presenting international art installations. On the upper floors house the museum’s own collections of art from the 19th century up to the present day.

The sculpture ”Boy” by the australian artist Ron Mueck, is the symbol of ARoS Aarhus Museum of Art. The five metres tall and 500 kg heavy impressive Boy is crouching in the northern end of the foyer of special exhibitions.
