Personal StatementMy name is Original Michael. I am a Native New Yorker, who relocated in 1996 to Atlanta.
Thing have been up hill since my relocation to Georgia. I have found a wife. I didn’t think
they made women that nice on this planet. My name has often brought snickers, sarcastic
remarks, insensitive comments mostly but it has by evidence of my experiences been
fitting. While today I work in the field of substance abuse, largely with
parolees, probationers and those suffering from co-occurring disorders, my story is
unusual. In many ways I have been nurtured, befriend by mentors and guided to a path I
did not chose. I am glad God’s plan beat mines! I will not handle new blessing in old ways
that’s why I am pursuing greater education. It is my hopes to be a license psychologist. I
believe that I have a responsibility to forfill, something to be account for. Most important I
believe. I can be to someone ,all that I needed someone to be to me.

Reflection
Argosy has been very challenging for me. The fact that I have
not been to school in almost 30 years was scary. Poor time
management and job demands increased my fears while taking
classes. I however found that many students were willing to
assist me and of equal value professors willing to go the extra
length to help me learn and understand.
I am so happy I did not quit as my insecurities and doubts so
often shouted for me to so but relied on the guidance and
tolerance of the Argosy family. I have met some challenges that
have instilled a level of pride once absent and even more
important, the removal of some doubts that hovered over me for
a long time.
Now everything is not perfect, I have a great deal to work on
but I have found a strength in my educational process that
promotes endurance and perseverance. I guess education while
directed towards particular disciplines ultimately serves the
individual most by allowing him or her to grow beyond their
frailties.
Many of you would not be able to conceptualize the level of my ascension
academically or merely look at the work I fall short with with judgment were I
not to give you my history. I have spend 20 years of my life in prison due to
an accidental shooting at the age of 18. In 1975 I when to prison and was
release 1994. It would be remised to say those years still do not cling to me
and I am not fighting inwardly despite almost two decades of freedom to be
free. Redemption is a very important facet in my spiritual belief that prompts
me not to give up, give in or give compromise to in my life. While the words
of my mother once yelling “you are so stupid” no longer affect sme as did the
8 yr. old then, doubt still sprouts up. I guess that why this education process
is so important, it kinda leads you to self efficacy ,accountability and
responsibility. More important through education “we” come to defeat the
doubts that sprouts up in each of lives in time of our own struggles and crisis.
I could be imprison now where it not for the flight of this education process
that has allowed me to soar beyond prejudice, bigotry, lack of compassion
and spiritual decadence. Maybe I will not be the brightest person ever in the
class but I will remain the more grateful

My Future in Learning
I envision my future to be one that is
full of great possibilities. There is a
whole world made out of things I do not
know, if I remain humble and give my
lips the same chance I give my mouth I
will be afforded a much more qualitative
life. Perhaps education will lead me to
leaving no talent or potential left used
