Andrea PresnallBachelors Psychology, 2012
Personal Statement
My interest in psychology began when I was very young before I knew
what sparked my curiosity. In childhood, I was known by my friends as a great
listener and was often seen as the one who would find ways to cheer up their
day. As I got older, I found the dysfunctional mind fascinating and pondered how
to fix what many people would consider broken. What I realized was that the
dysfunctional mind or what other people would call the addict, major depressive
or the schizophrenic is not broken but is often just lacking direction.
My experience working with addicts is through twelve step work. I have
been practicing the twelve steps for five and a half years and will have six years
sober this May. Also, I have been sponsoring others for over three years.
Academically, I will complete my Bachelors at Argosy University having a
Substance Abuse focus with a 3.9 GPA, in the spring of 2012.
My future plans for education are to complete my masters in clinical
psychology and move closer toward obtaining my doctorate. My overall goal for
my career is to start my own practice specializing in addiction and trauma.
