PIPELINE BUDGET: £ 70,000,000 Date: June 2006 to January 2008 _______________________________ ____ Client: National Grid Gas Transmission _______________________________ ____ Assignment Wardell Armstrong were commissioned to provide environmental and engineering consultancy support during the design and early construction phase of the Asselby to Pannal gas pipeline. This also included the provision of a full time on-site environmental adviser to the project. The 65 km pipeline between East Riding of Yorkshire and North Yorkshire was commissioned to carry supplies of natural gas from new offshore gas fields in the North Sea (approximately 5% of the UK’s gas supply) and reinforce the National Gas Transmission System by providing part of the first east-west link across the Pennines. Scope The works involved: Reviewing contractor’s EIA & other documentation to ensure all information was correct and related to NG policies, current legislation and best practice Undertaking route surveys and providing input into the environmental impacts of reroutes, crossing methodologies and layout of site yards etc. Advising on protected species, environmentally sensitive areas, pollution prevention, waste management etc. and the proposed mitigation techniques. Co-ordinating liaison meetings with statutory and non-statutory consultees. Site and desktop survey to identity all springs & private water supplies within 2km of the pipeline centreline. Detailed Risk Assessment of possible influence construction activities and provision of mitigation measures where required. Design and implementation of questionnaire sent to all households/ landowners within 2km of pipeline to identify previously unrecorded supplies.
