APRIL 30, 2019 - Initial Meeting of the group to re-organize Birmingham Branch of ASALH. Branch reviewed Membership packet and FAQs from Ms. Barbara Dunn, ASALH Nat'l Membership Chair and agreed to meet again on MAY 21st. MAY 21, 2019 - Branch met and was provided ASALH information including website, membership requirements and numbers needed to charter, along with notification given to ASALH Exec. Director and Membership Chair by Ms. Hamilton that the body wished to move forward in organizing the Bham Branch of ASALH. JULY 23, 2020 - Met and elected organizing Branch officers and established membership dues, which were later revised downward. The Branch By-laws drafted and we agreed to accept the offer to meet at the Ballard House. AUGUST 27, 2019 - The Branch met and voted to elect a new membership chair and secretary. Also, we agreed to work with the Montgomery organizing branch and to partner where feasible on ASALH programs. OCTOBER 22, 2019 - Branch acquired EIN# and established checking account with Citizens Trust Bank in Birmingham. The Branch agreed to partner with the Bham Civil Rights Institute in organizing Dr. Woodson's Birthday celebration on Dec. 14th. Nov.-Dec. 2019 - Branch created recruitment flier for new members. We had to abruptly change our birthday venue for Dr. Woodson's Birthday celebration, since the BCRI had a conflict on Dec. 14th. Dr. Joan Burroughs graciously hosted the event at her home for members, friends and guests. There were excerpts, and "punchbowl" quotations read that were picked at random by participants. We all learned something about Dr. Woodson. We also offered perspective members from the event.
