Concluding Remarks •MSA will transform airborne sonar

– Quantum leap in sonobuoy system capability and complexity – Requires a new approach to processing, control and displays – Modern PC-based processing eliminates the need for bespoke hardware or boxes – It will lead to a new generation of optimised sonobuoys and deployable sensors

Ultra’s Innovation in Sonar

• Pre UK SSTD, deployment of towed countermeasure arrays was difficult and often dangerous

• The rigid TB-14A, NIXIE, towed countermeasure which could not be reeled on a winch drum and required insertion into the towed assembly as it was being deployed

• Ultra developed the in-line flexible towed body to replace the TB-14A for the UK SSTD system, replacing an entire electronics cabinet
