STREET LEVEL IMAGERY
WHAT IS A GEOCYCLORAMA?
cy·clo·ram·a
a circular picture of a 360° scene, viewed from inside.
a cloth stretched tight in an arc around the back of a stage set, often used to
depict the sky.
GeoCyclorama 360° by 180° street view image with geospatial attributes.
Each pixel has x,y and z data associated with it.
Integrates with existing GIS System

WHAT DOES A GEOCYCLORAMA PROVIDE?
HOW DOES A GEOCYCLORAMA SUPPORT AN EXISTING DATA BASE?
To Support and Enhance your ExistingGeodatabase, Street Level Imagery
should share the same Spatial Characteristics
STREET LEVEL IMAGERY REQUIREMENTS
360° by 180° parallax-free and geometrically correct panoramic images taken at scale with high locational accuracy
• Excellent geo-reference (10cm on average)
• Integration of Ground control points
• Allows for optimal position accuracy
Positioning Quality• Natural, clear and bright colors
• 100 Mpx +
• Excellent asset ID & extraction as a result of high resolution
Image Quality
• X, Y, Z + coordinate system info
• Includes date & time stamp
• Allows users to evaluate data and determine 3D coordinates
Meta Data
• Geometrically accurate per pixel (x,y,z)
• Measurement Accuracy – 2cm ( .7 inches)
• Enables users to take precise measurements

SO WHAT?!
Analysis of road infrastructure
Location of encroaching overhead wires, light poles, road signs, etc.
Bridge structure and overhead clearances
Road surface conditions
Complete asset inventory and management for cities and counties.
Accurate / rapid survey of overhead lines and wires
Complete inventory of connectors, transformers, poles, etc.
Mapping as-built infrastructure for dams, power plants, etc.
Accurate and rapid identification of obstructions and encroachments.
GOVERNMENT FUNDING
MAP-21 legislation as the well as the FHWA’s Every Day Counts program have identified
3D technology as transformational and something they will financially support.

BRIDGE CLEARANCES
▪ Whitfield (2012) discusses the development of automated bridge clearance software
that is being used by Caltrans to document bridge clearances for 7,250 bridges. The
clearances needed to be determined within 1” vertically and 3” horizontally. It is
estimated that there will be more than 100,000 measurements for these bridges. The
final point cloud is estimated to be 531 terabytes in size with an additional 28 terabytes
of imagery. Finally, the automation is estimated to have saved 1.2 million manual
mouse clicks. In a comparison to traditional techniques, MLS showed superiority in
speed of acquisition and removed the difficulty in trying to manually find the points of
minimum clearance.

MANY HOMES DESTROYED
These two homes were also damaged and declared unsafe for reoccupation.

If the caller is here, there is no
visible address.
However, they can describe what they see.
