Diagnostic

• Measure a variety of skills • Given if a student fails to make adequate

progress after receiving extra help • Designed to provide a more precise and

detailed picture of the full range of a student’s knowledge and skills so that instruction can be more precisely planned.

Screening

• Screening tests provide the teacher with a beginning assessment of a student’s preparation for grade level reading instruction.

• They are a “first alert” that a student may need extra help to make adequate progress in reading during the year.
