Assessment Activities
Have students draw a picture of the moon every night at a regular time interval. Use class discussions as an ongoing assessment of students’ understanding of the moon phases.
Use Phases of the Moon – Oreo Lesson as an assessment. For assessment purposes see attached sheet for students to record results of Oreo lesson.
Instructional Notes:
Students should know: the appearance (shape) of the moon changes in a cycle that takes about a month.Note: Students are not responsible for naming all waxing and waning phases of the moon.

Completely, or almost completely, dark.
2. First Quarter (or Half) Moon
The right half of the Moon is light.
3. Full Moon
The entire Moon is bright.
4. Third Quarter (or Half) Moon
The left half of the Moon is light.
