SYSTEM OF WASHING CLOTHES FOR CITY SLUMS

INDUSTRY PROJECTOnida Mirc Electronics, Mumbai

DURATION18 weeks

DESIGN BRIEFTo develop a system for washing and rinsing clothes for a low income user

group, which is portable, involves minimal water consumption, conserves

space and is a community based machine to be shared by a user group.

INSUFFICIENT SPACE inside house

washing takes place IN KITCHEN washing with STORED WATER REUSE of GREY WATER accumulated NARROW SPACES for air drying cloths

conventional HAND WASHING methods unintended use of EXCESS WATER NO SPACE to place machine in house

NEED Washing clothes - 22% of total water consumption

Machine which consumes as little water as possible

No compromise on quality and function

Saving space and independant of running water

Partially or fully shared making it more affordable for a user group

INSIGHTS Doing laundry manually is a time consuming and tiring task.

User must ensure of water supply | soak clothes | scrub | wring

clothes out | hang them out to air dry

Often clothes lose structural integrity due to harsh washing habits

A device should not only be functional, but also keep user in mind

CONCEPTUALIZING

FINAL CONCEPT

PORTABLE ADJUSTABLE MULTI FUNCTIONAL

Machine is too bulky and heavy weight.

The machine is a one part type, all the parts being welded to each other making it

difficult to open and clean it.

The machine has a fixed height. This makes it ergonomically not viable for all the users.

SELF PROJECTSymbiosis Institute of Design

DURATION12 weeks

DESIGN BRIEFTo design a tool/aid for the laborers who are conducting

the process of rose harvesting in a Greenhouse.

Page 10: Ashni Portfolio

One hand of the laborer always remains stationary to keep the harvest since

gutter space is not sufficient for placing the bucket.

The flowers are collected in the hand of the laborer, this causes scratches and

injuries to the hand.

Flowers tend to fall down from the hand and collide against each other

causing them to crush and spoil.

DENTURE HOLDER

SELF PROJECTSymbiosis Institute of Design

DURATION12 weeks

DESIGN BRIEFTo design a Denture holder, for senior citizens, which is

ergonomically easy to use, has a smooth surface with

a mirror aid and is a multi utility unit allowing for

storage of both, dentures and brush.

USER RESEARCHMARKET RESEARCH

Breakage of dentures inside any container on frequent displacement of

the box is possible.

For bed ridden users, wearing the dentures properly is often a problem.

Elderly people tend to forget the location of their dentures making it

inaccessible when needed.
