Ashland United Methodist Church An Order for the Worship of God

Christ the King Sunday November 25, 2018 11:00 A.M. The Chiming of the Hour

The chiming of the hour is a call for us to shift from conversation to silence, as we prepare our hearts and minds to worship God.

*The Hymn of Praise “I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord” UMH p. 540 *Invocation The Prayer of Confession (to be prayed by all)

Have mercy upon us, O God, according to thy loving kindness; according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out our transgressions. Wash us thoroughly from our iniquities, and cleanse us from our sins. For we acknowledge our transgressions, and our sin is ever before us. Create in us clean hearts, O God, and renew a right spirit within us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Welcome!

Please sign the friendship pad when it is passed to you and pass it to your neighbor.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

Doxology Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen

Today’s Scripture

John 18: 33-38 NT p. 113

Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me?” Pilate replied, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.” Pilate asked him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate asked him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, “I find no case against him.

**Safe Sanctuary Policy Update**

Our policy has been reviewed and updated, which means it’s time for all

volunteers (current AND new) to be trained and background checks completed.

Training will be offered on Dec 2nd and 16th at 9:45 am in Ashland Hall. More

training times will be offered in the New Year as well. We would appreciate folks

making time this year as costs have gone up; we are trying to make good use of

our funds for this year and 2019.

Finance and Stewardship Committee Report The Church Council approved the proposed 2019 church budget of $701,192 recommended by the Finance and Stewardship Committee. The approved budget represents an increase from the 2018 church budget which was $677,867. The increase is due primarily to increased personnel costs. We appreciate the assistance of the various committees in preparing the budget. We also appreciate the incredible financial stewardship of the Ashland congregation. A copy of the finalized 2019 church budget will be posted in the near future on the bulletin board across from the church office. Thank you. Jeff Barham, Chairperson
