Programme Highlights

: Steel is always used as a material for variety of structures and construction projects. The influence of weathering or air contamination can corrode steel structures and corrosion can exert negative impacts on the safety of steel structures. To protect the surface of steel against corrosion, hot-dip galvanization is commonly used as a mean to form metallurgically-bonded zinc-iron alloy layers creating a barrier between steel and the environment, this layer “sacrifices” itself to be reacted with environment prior to underlying base steel corroded.

This 1.5-hours webinar systemically focuses on three fundamental steps in the hot-dip galvanizing process namely, surface preparation, galvanizing, and inspection. The presentation will cover hot-dip galvanizing process, including coating formation of reaction between zinc and steel in galvanizing bath and coating’s structure. The Pre-surface preparation such as removing dirt, oil, and other organic residues. For quality assurance and control, visual-inspection and non-destructive measurement are reliable and fast method to check the quality of hot-dip galvanizing.

The presentation will also cover the standards and specifications of hot-dip galvanizing, which is commonly known as BS EN ISO 1461, and health & safety topics of hot-dip galvanizing.

About the Speaker

: Mr. Babu, Vinodh Kumar Mr. Babu, Vinodh Kumar is currently the Manager (NDT & Welding) of Furgo Technical Services Ltd., Hong Kong. He acquired his Masters in Materials Engineering from Hong Kong, Bachelors in Engineering (Hons) from Australia and has gained many international Certifications in Non-destructive Testing, Welding, Protective Coatings, Asset Integrity and QHSE Management Systems. Protective Coatings Certification includes the current CSWIP/BGAS Painting Inspector Grade 2, Coating Inspector from Institute of Corrosion and past qualification includes Site Coating Inspector from CSWIP / BGAS. He has more than 24 years of experience in manufacturing, construction & maintenance projects within the Oil and Gas (onshore & offshore), Petrochemical, Power & Infrastructure sectors in various countries such as India, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Brunei, Oman, United Arab Emirates and People’s Republic of China.
