Camps & WorkshopsThe Grand Theatre Center for the Arts Summer Theatre Camp is an action-packed theatre day camp taught by working theatre professionals. Our Summer Theatre Camp is an exciting place to learn all about the theatre and to explore your own creativity through classes and performing. In addition, campers will learn acting technique, stage etiquette, and theatre terminology. From musical theatre, to plays, to mask-making, to improvisation, to puppet-making and puppeteering, you can have upto six weeks of learning, friends, and fun!

Theme Camps

We know that your summer can be just as busy as the school year, and that’s why we have added one-week camps to our Summer Theatre Camp this year. Each week will concentrate on related theatre disciplines, enabling a more in-depth learning experience for our campers. Also, because each unit is a full week long, campers will have more time to explore and enjoy some of last year’s most popular units. Guided by camp staff, campers will share final workshop performances for family and friends on the last day of camp.

Pantomime & Masks June 10—14Campers create their own molded and personalized masks, and using familiar stories, improvisation, and creative movement, they will leap into storytelling as they discover how their bodies bring comedic or dramatic situations to life.

Puppets June 17—21Campers create their own whimsical puppets as well as learn from professional puppeteers and puppet-makers a brief history of puppets, work with several forms of puppetry, and learn the principles of bringing a puppet to life.

Playmakers June 24 —28Campers create the plot, script, and add props and costumes for a short, themed play. (Youth: Tall Tales; Teens: Whodunnit?) Through storytelling, campers are encouraged to problem-solve and work as a team to integrate their ideas into their plays.

Summer Theatre CampOur goal is to give our campers the opportunity to meet challenges, explore their creativity, build self-confidence, and see their success in final performances, all in the environment of a supportive community. The positive growth that takes place through the performing arts is thrilling.

Camp is for ages 9 through 18. Each day will include time with all of the campers together, as well as time when campers will be divided into smaller groups based on age. Campers may register for one or more sessions and are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited, so register early!

Some costs for Summer Theatre Camp are underwritten through the generous support of the Grand Foundation.

No Regrets: The Basics of Performing

Is your child a triple threat? Would he or she like the opportunity to become one? Look no further! No Regrets is a performance-based group that focuses on dancing and singing routines. Students without extensive vocal or dancing experience are welcome. Students learn jazz, character, hip-hop, modern, and elements of lyrical and tap dancing styles. There will be large group numbers as well as smaller ensembles.

My approach to dance is to teach students a wide variety of methods, blending multiple styles to make the students more versatile performers. This is a great way for your child to gain self-confidence in a fun and active setting. By the end of the season, students will have learned enough techniques to perform in a show. This class meets once a week for 5 weeks.

Music Together recognizes that all children are musical, and that every child needs a stimulating, supportive music environment to achieve basic competence in the wonderful human capacity of music making. Adults and children come together for 45 minutes to sing songs, experience rhythm chants, dance and move to music, play instruments, make up silly rhymes for songs and experience a wide range of rhythmic and melodic variety. This live music making takes place in a fun, playful, non-performance oriented and age-appropriate setting, with adults and teacher acting as encouraging role models. Classes are led by a registered Music Together teacher.
