General Description
The ME-1005 is a highly accurate,programmable filter designed to simulatethe attenuation versus frequencycharacteristics of the 75W coaxial cable,type WECO 728A (Belden 9231) specifiedby ANSI and CCITT for use in high speedcommunications networks in the US andaround the world. This same cable is alsofound in office buildings and industrialcomplexes where it forms the backbone ofPBX and LAN communication systems. Bysimulating almost 1500ft (453km) ofcoaxial cable in 45ft (13.7m) increments,the ME-1005 offers a convenient andpractical method of developing and testing

Easy to use front panel controls set theME-1005's simulated cable lengthdisplayed in Feet, Meters, or dB ofAttenuation at 4 standard frequencies (inMHz): 4.2, 17.2, 22.4, and 25.9. A 75Wnoise mixer signal input allowsinterference margin testing with S/N ratiosfrom 9dB to 20dB in accordance withCCITT G.703 while a buffered 50Woscilloscope output simplifies viewing ofindividual data pulses for easy maskverification. All ME-1005 functions can becomputer controlled via a standardRS-232 serial port for automated testapplications. Options include arack-mount chassis and battery backup.
