From the Pastor's Pen

With the atmosphere at the recent General Conference of the UnitedMethodist Church, and the atmosphere in Santa Fe and Washington, I’vethought about John Wesley’s three general rules for the Methodist Classmeetings. Those who joined a class meeting were expected to show theirsalvation by following three rules. Bishop Rueben Job wrote a small bookcalled, Three Simple Rules. The three rules are: Do no harm; Do good; andattend upon the ordinances of God (stay in love with God by using the means ofgrace).

These three rules still provide good sound advice on to how to live. Do noharm. There is so much harm being done in the news, on Facebook, infamilies, school life and even in the church. It is our own insecurities that causeus to lash out and harm others with our words and actions. We are to listen tothe advice of James. “Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to becomeangry.”

Do good! Jesus came to bring salvation to the world, and he lived a life ofdoing good. He saw people in their sickness, pain, sorrow, and brokenness andhe reached out and touched them, spoke to them and brought healing to them. Wesley reminds us to,

Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can.In all the places you can.At all the times you can.

To all the people you can.As long as you ever can.

Stay in love with God is the way Bishop Job described the third rule,‘attend upon the ordinances of God.’ We stay in love with God by using themeans of grace of prayer, worship, Bible reading and study, Christianfellowship….” We can’t stay in love with God or remain connected to him if wedon’t use the means of grace.

Throughout the season of Lent, we are going to focus on the Upper Roomdiscourse. In these four chapters, Jesus gives us some powerful statements onlove, service, the Holy Spirit, prayer and obedience. Jesus was giving hisdisciples and us some last minute instructions on how to live.

Youth Pastor

As many of you know, Russ Panzer will be commissioned as a ProvisionalElder in the United Methodist Church. He will be receiving an appointmentand moving in June. We have been blessed by his leadership, his gifts ofteaching our youth and his gifts of music. We rejoice in this journey and we arethankful that we have been a part of this journey. We pray for God’s blessing onhim as he enters this new phase of ministry. Please join me in prayer for Russand for the person God has to fill this position. God has provided in the past, and he will provide for the future. He says, “ask, seek and knock…”

Budget/Giving Update

Giving is our response to God’s grace, and a way for us to be in ministry withhim. Our giving is part of our covenant with God and one another. Thanks toyour faithful giving our debt balance, for the Fellowship Hall, is at $206,000. We are about to complete the first phase of the Education Remodel and thesecond phase of remodeling the bathrooms will begin soon. Our 2019 Budget istighter than it has been for the last seven years. This is due to the death ofmany faithful members, and not receiving a $50,000 gift that we’ve had formany years. I share this with you because the budget is about people andproviding vital ministries to our members and those outside the walls of the

church. Remember every gift matters and its not an equal share but and equalsacrifice.

As we enter the season of Lent, let us remember that Jesus calls us to denyourselves, take up our cross and follow him. Let’s continue to give ourselves tohim and the ministry he has called us to.

In His Hands,

Pastor Monty

Summer Camp and Mission Trip

It's time to start getting registered for SYC Camp and Mission Trip! This summer, our Sr. High (completed 9-12) will be taking a mission tripthrough FUGE Camps to Mobile, Alabama June 3rd-8th. We will be workingwith inner city youth and kid's clubs (similar to YMCA's) while there! We willbe flying again this year, and so we need a firm commitment on whether or notpeople are going by the end of this week. We will also need a deposit of $200 assoon as possible so we can work on buying plane tickets. The other $100 will be

due the first of May. For a fun activity, we will be spending time at the beach atGulf Shores!

For our Jr. High, we will be going to SYC at Sacramento again! I've been inthe planning meetings, and it should be even better than last year! SYC isJune 17-21, and will cost $150. This is for our Jr. High students, but we wantto welcome any Sr. High who would like to go also!

As always, don't let money be a reason your student is not able to attend oneof these events. We have scholarships available if you will talk to Russ. Onepre-requisite of these scholarships (or actually for the validity of anyof the above prices) is that a student participate in at least 4 of ourmonthly service projects between August and April. Most have alreadytaken care of this, but if you haven't and plan to go on one of these trips, pleaseget this taken care of.

Service Projects

The last Sunday of every month, the youth will be working within thecommunity, and hope to be able to serve many of our own who may need somehelp around the house. We are open to any kind of project, and want to put outour dates ahead of time this year so that if you have a major project, you can letus know well ahead of time and we can make sure to have enough people andequipment when the time comes! Here are our dates for this semester!

March 31stApril 28th

As these dates come up, feel free to call us at the office or let Russ know thatyou have a project for us! This is so important to our youth group as we striveto be doers of the Word and not hearers only! We also dream of this becominga church-wide project. So please, adults, look at these dates and see if maybeyou could give up one Sunday afternoon to serve the people of your church andcommunity!
