He spent his first five years in the home of his mother, then from 1457 he lived in the household of his father, grandparents and uncle, Francesco, in the small town of Vinci.

Leonardo received an informal education in Latin, geometry and mathematics. In 1466, at the age of fourteen, Leonardo was apprenticed

to the artist Andrea di Cione, known as Verrocchio, whose workshop was "one of the finest in Florence".

By 1472, at the age of twenty, Leonardo qualified as a master in the Guild of St Luke, the guild of artists and doctors of medicine,

Leonardo is very well known for his masterpiece as the Last Supper (Italian Ultima Price or Cenacolo, in Milan), painted in 1498, and Mona Lisa (also known in Italian as La Gioconda or La

Joconde in French, now in the Louvre in Paris ), painted in 1503 - 1506, although he disputes whether the picture painted by himself, or is it the work of one of his students.Today have been

preserved only seventeen of his paintings, but no statue.

Leonardo often planned grandiose paintings with many drawings and sketches, but they were never completed.

In 1481 was commissioned to paint a picture of the altar "Adoration of the Kings". After intensive preparations and the number of drawings, painting left unfinished when he went to

Milan.In Florence he was commissioned to paint a large public mural "The Battle of Anghiari" his rival Michelangelo was to paint the opposite wall. After creating an incredible number of studies in

preparation for this job, left the city with the mural unfinished due to technical problems.
