St Helena’s sea port is open to marine vessels. The three main arrivals are yachts, the MV Helena (the island’s cargo ship, which accepts passenger bookings) and cruise ships. Mooring and fees Our mooring system sits to the far west of James Bay (15 55 400 South and 005 43 500 West). The yellow buoys allow for up to 20 Gross Tonnage (GT). The red buoys allow for up to 50 GT. Any vessel above 50 GT is required to anchor off to the north or west of the moorings. Harbour fees are £35 for the first month. Immigration charges are £20/ person for any stay longer than 72hrs. Mooring fees for yellow buoys are £2/day, and £3/day for red buoys. The ferry service is £2/person for each roundtrip (to be paid directly to the ferry operator). Provisions and fuel Upon your arrival, if you will require any basic provisions during your time in isolation, you must immediately inform Port Control. Fuel can be ordered via Michael Richards ([email protected]) or once you are shore side. Proof of departure date and location of the last port of call must be verified by the vessel’s official logbooks. If official documentation cannot verify this information, the arriving yacht will be asked to undergo 10 days of quarantine in the mooring field at St Helena. All crew must remain on board the yacht until officially cleared by Port Control. Before arrival Yachts intending to head to St Helena should make advance contact with both or either: - St Helena Harbour Master Steve Kirk ([email protected]); - Logistics Coordinator Gene Henry ([email protected]) At approximately 10/15Nm from the island, if it is between 08:30 and 16:00 Monday through Friday, please contact Port Control on VHF Channel 14 to state your ETA; or contact St Helena Radio on VHF Channel 16 if outside of these hours (St Helena Radio will then notify Port Control). Testing and entry In order to be cleared from quarantine after the mandatory 10 days, all yacht crew must arrange and return a negative COVID-19 test. Tests are handled by the St Helena Health Directorate at no cost to the crew. Testing only takes place on Thursdays. Once negative test results are confirmed, yacht crew must await official clearance from Port Control before entering the island.
