ARPEXGanzstahlkupplungen All Steel CouplingsCharakteristische Merkmale Characteristic Features
ARPEX couplings are used for all engineering purposes wherereliable power transmission is required even with unavoidableshaft misalignment
" All Steel DesignAll components of ARPEX couplings are manufactured of high quality steel.This results in a compact, ruggeddesign whichguarantees a longworking lifewith a very high degree of operational safety.
" Maintenancefree and WearfreeARPEX couplings are not subject to wear. With proper selection and carefulinstallation, an unlimited operating life can be expected.
" Angular, Radial and Axial FlexibleThe plate packs, made of high--gradeCrNi--steel, mounted alternately on thecoupling flanges, facilitate compensation for shaftmisalignments in angular-,radial- and axial direction.
" Torsionally Rigid and Free of PlayMakinguseof spring steel discs andclose fitting bolt connections renders theARPEX coupling torsionally rigid.
" Modular SystemA large number of standard components can be combined in many differentcoupling types, thus enabling a great number of drive problems to be solvedby standard types.
" Temperature StabilitySince ARPEX components are all steel, they are temperature-proof from-40 C up to +280 C, designs in special materials are available for tempera-tures from -196 C up to +350 C. According to Guideline 94/9/EC (Atex) thefollowing temperature limits are valid for possible use in hazardous areas (op-tional!):T4: --20 C up to +80 C; T5: --20 C up to +50C; T6: --20 C up to +40C
" Easy InstallationMost types facilitate radial installation of the spacer without the necessity tomove driver or driven machine.
" Low Restoring ForcesUsing flexible, thin discs results in very low restoring forces, provided that thecoupling is properly aligned.
" Independent of Direction of RotationARPEXcouplings operate in bothdirections of rotation andare therefore suit-able for reversing operation.
" Smooth OperationARPEX coupling components aremachined to very close tolerances. There-fore, at speed, the assembled coupling imparts only very small forces on theconnected drive components.

Vorteile
Advantages
" Form-closed torque transmissionThedecisivedifference of the conical bolting comparedwith fittingbolts is thereal form-closed connection, which occurs in the plate pack bolting. Theform-closed connection is achieved by the conical design of the bolting.
" Easy assemblyAn additional decisive difference is the significant easy assembly. For as-sembly of couplings with conical bolting the use of hydraulic assembly toolsare not necessary any longer (see table on page 9).
" OperationBy tightening the clamping screw the taper bolt is pulled into the taper sleeveand the sleeve is widen. Therefore a form-closed connection both betweentaper and taper sleeve and between taper sleeve, flange anddiscs is guaran-teed.
" Lower weightThe conical bolting has weight and inertia advantages compared with fittedboltings, which have the same torque capacity.
" CenteringThe precision of centering by using the conical bolting is extraordinary high.This facilitates a high balancing quality.
" MaterialEach component of the conical bolting is manufactured from high-qualityalloy steel.

ARPEXGanzstahlkupplungenAuslegung, Berechnungsbeispiel, Bestellbeispiel
TNenn =9550 x P
n
TNenn = Antriebsmoment (Nm)P = Antriebsleistung (kW)n = Kupplungsdrehzahl (1/min)
Das Kupplungs-Nennmoment TKN ergibt sich aus:
TKN ∫ TNenn x f1
f1 = Betriebsfaktor nach Tabelle 9.II
TKN ∫ TA / 2
TA = Maximales Anfahrmoment (Nm)
m =J1J2
J1 = Massenträgheitsmoment AntriebsseiteJ2 = Massenträgheitsmoment Abtriebsseite
TKN ∫Tkipp2
TKN ∫Tkipp x 0.8m + 1
für m ∫ 0.6 gilt: für m < 0.6 gilt:
Tkipp = Motorkippmoment (Nm)
3. StoßmomenteFür sehr selten auftretende Stoßmomente wie z.B. Kurzschlußmomente, diewährend der gesamten Lebensdauer mit max. 103 Lastwechseln auftreten,wird das 3-fache Kupplungs-Nenndrehmoment zugelassen.
TKN ∫ Tstoß / 3
Tstoß = Stoßmoment (Nm)
TNenn =9550 x 56 kW1450 1/min
= 368.8 Nm
Belastungskennwert aus Tabelle 9.I= GBetriebsfaktor aus Tabelle 9.II f1 = 1
a. Auslegung für Dauerbetrieb:
TKN ∫ 1 x 368.8 Nm = 368.8 Nm
b. Berücksichtigung von Anfahrstößen:
TKN ∫ Tkipp / 2 = 850 Nm / 2 = 425 Nm

3. Shock loadsFor shock loads, such as very rarely occurringshort circuit moments, which during the total life occur with max. 103 loadchanges, three times the nom. torque is permissible.
TKN ∫ Tstoß / 3
Tstoß = Shock load (Nm)
4. Coupling selectionThe largest calculated value TKN decides on the coupling size. Having se-lected a coupling, a check has to be made that the max. allowed couplingspeed, listed in tables, is not exceeded and the expected shaft misalign-ments are within the permitted range (see page 12--13).
5. Calculation example:Required:ARPEXcoupling in a centrifugal pumpdrive for light fluids (water).Driver = electric motor with P = 56 kW at 1450 rpm and a pull-out torque ofTKipp = 850 Nm, shaft distance = 180 mm.
TNenn =9550 x 56 kW1450 rpm
= 368.8 Nm
Load classification symbol from table 11.I = UService factor from table 11.II f1 = 1
a. Selection for continuous operation:
TKN ∫ 1 x 368.8 Nm = 368.8 Nm
b. Taking into account starting shock load:
TKN ∫ Tkipp / 2 = 850 Nm / 2 = 425 Nm
Chosen: ARPEX coupling NAN 140-6 of series ARS-6 with shaft distanceS2 = 180 mm and a nom. coupling torque of TKN = 500 NmThe speed check shows it to be less than perm. speed (1450 rpmat < 7500 rpm).

Listed load classification symbols may be modified after giving exact detailsof operating conditions.Short circuit forces have not been taken into account with these servicefactors.
Note the following points when selecting a coupling:1. Shaft misalignments have to be within the permissible values of the cho-
sen coupling (see appropriate tables resp. page 12 and 13). In case thatgreater shaft misalignments can be expected, please refer to factory.
2. Allowable ambient temperatures -40 C to +280 C.According to Guideline 94/9/EC (Atex) the following temperature limitsare valid for possible use in hazardous areas (optional!):T4: --20 C up to +80 C; T5: --20 Cup to +50C; T6: --20 Cup to +40C.Other temperature ranges on request.
3. Operating speedmust equal or be less thanpermissible speed. Permissi-ble speeds of drivers with longer spacers are limited byweight andcriticalspeed.
4. At frequency--adjusted motors is to pay attention, that the distance betweenthe stimulating frequencies and the natural frequencies of the complete pro-pulsion is big enough. In doubt please consult the coupling supplier.

αKr = tan αKw x L
L = Mittenabstand der Lamellenpakete
Permissible Shaft MisalignmentsARPEX couplings in standard design with two sets of plate packs can acco-modate angular, radial and axial shaft misalignments. Couplings with onesetof plate packs can only accept angular and axial, not radial misalignment.
∆KAS -
AxialversatzAxial Offset
∆KAS +
Tables on page 15 show the permissible angular and axial misalignments,whereby values for axial offset apply to a complete coupling with two sets ofplate packs.
The listed values represent the total permissible misalignment. Consult theappropriate operating instructions for allowable shaft misalignments.
Permissible radial misalignment depends on the allowable angularmisalign-ment and on the center distance of the plate pack sets.
αKr = tan αKw x L
L = Center distance of plate pack sets
Example:Required:Allowable misalignment for an ARPEX coupling type ARS-6NHN 195-6 witha shaft distance S8 = 1000 mm.
Permissible angular misalignment = 0.7 at ϖKa = 0 mmPermissible axial offset = 3.06 mm at ϖKw = 0Permissible axial offset at ϖKw = 0.3 = 1.75 mm
The corresponding permissible radial misalignment ϖKr with an angular off-set of 0.3 is calculated as follows:
Center distance of plate pack sets L = S8 - S1= 1000 mm - 15 mm = 985 mmϖKr = tan (0.3) x 985 mm = 5.15 mm

In cases where the shaft diameter is greater than the max. bore diameter ofN-hubs, Jumbo-hubs are used.Due to the bigger hub core diameter ”d2”, the J-hub can not be mounted as a”B-hub”.The J-hub can be combined with every spacer.

Ganzstahlkupplungen All Steel CouplingsFunktion der Klemmnabe Bauarten 124 und 125 Function of Clamping Hub Types 124 and 125
FunctionARPEX clamping hubs transmit torque through a springy clamp connection.By mounting the clamping ring with clamping screws, the necessary surfacepressure is established in the shaft-hub contact area. After tightening, theclamping ring fits snug against the clamping hub. The gap between clampinghub and clamping ring is zero. As a result, the balance of the assembly ismaintained even after several mountings and removals (no wobbling effect).Clamping hubs can be tightened any number of times, so long as attention ispaid to sufficient grease on the taper surface.
Transmittable torqueThe clamp connections are designed to transmit the nom. torques of clamp-ing hubs ”TKl max” listed in tables below. The nom. clamping hub torquemust not be exceeded. The calculated coefficient of friction is ← = 0.16.Shaft diameters should be selected to DIN 748.
Tolerances and surface roughnessThe transmittable torques take into account the max. fitting clearance andmax. allowable surface roughness. Standard bore / shaft fits are G6 / h6. Forother shaft tolerances reduced torques or different hub fits must be applied.The shaft surface roughness should equal or be less than Ra = 1.6 ←m.

ARPEXGanzstahlkupplungenTechnische Hinweise
Bild 46.2: Kupplung komplett bearbeitet

ARPEXAll Steel CouplingsTechnical Information
1. Balancing of ARPEX couplings.The necessity for balancing ARPEX coupling depends on: speed and coupling diameter (figure 47.2) speed and length of spacer (figure 47.1) speed and required balance qualitySubject to configuration of components and rotational speed, balancing iscarried out in one resp. two planes with reference to DIN ISO 1940-1. De-pending on specification of customers, couplings are balanced as individualcomponents or in assembled condition.As standard, balancing occur before keyseating acc. to DIN ISO 8821.
NOTE:If balancing has to be carried out after keyseating, it must be explicitly statedwhen ordering.
Fig. 47.1: Coupling with H or Z spacer
Fig. 47.2: Coupling machined all-over
2. Assembly of coupling partsAssembly of coupling parts on shaft that are to be connected, has to corre-spond to coupling types.Plate pack assemblies of series ARS-6, ARC-8/10 (typeNHN) and ARW-4/6have to be fastened alternately to the flanges of hubs and spacers. For cou-plings types with B--hub dimensions k3 and P have to b taken into account. Ifdimension P falls short, the close-fitting bolts must be inserted first beforemounting B--hub. Close fitting bolts cannot be exchanged afterwards withoutfirst removing B-hub.
3. BoresSee table 48.I for appropriate tolerance band of finish bores.
4. MountingARPEX couplings for shaftends of motors and gearboxes are normally pro-vided with keyways to DIN 6885-1, larger couplings for shafts taper keywayto DIN 6886 with taper action from inside of hub.
5. Safety precautionsThe user must guard moving machine elements so as not to endanger anyperson.
6. Fitting and removing shaftsVarious types of ARPEX couplings enable fitting and removing of shafts andmachines without displacing them axially.
7. Possible shaft misalignmentsARPEX couplings with two plate pack assemblies (two joints) canaccommo-date radial, angular and axial shaft misalignments. ARPEX couplings withone plate pack assembly can only compensate angular and axial shaft offsetconditions.
8. Replacement of individual coupling componentsAll components of ARPEX couplings can be replaced, provided that matingparts are still in perfect condition. In this connection, special attention shouldbe given to the bores of close fitting bolts.
9. Installation and putting into operationFor installation and putting into operation, observe the respective operatinginstructions which are supplied with each coupling.
10. Flange - connected pulleys or flywheelsFor coupling types with flange, the allowable circumferential velocity of pul-leys or flywheels which are to be mounted, must be observed.
11. Condition on deliveryWith exceptions in series ARF and ARC, ARPEX couplings are supplied inseparate parts.H-spacers are painted with a metal primer, machined surface are preservedby Tectyl.Series ARF and ARC couplings are supplied as complete units with preas-sembled plate packs. Disassembly of these coupling parts should only becarried out after prior consulation with the manufacturer.
12. Technical changesChange of dimensions and technical values possible due to further technicaldevelopments.
