Game 150 | Home Game 76 (50-25) | Night Game 113 (63-49)
TV: SNLA | Radio: AM 570/KTNQ 1020 AM
THE HOME STRETCH: The Dodgers continue a 10-game
homestand (3-4) tonight with the second of four games against the
Arizona Diamondbacks following last night’s 8-4 loss. Los Angeles
opened the homestand by winning two of three games from the
Rockies before dropping its series against the Pirates this past
weekend. Following the Arizona series, the Dodgers will depart for
their final road trip of the regular season, a seven-game trek to
Colorado and San Francisco.
The Dodgers’ magic number sits at seven to clinch their
third consecutive NL West title and reach the postseason for
the third year in a row, a feat that has never been
accomplished in franchise history.
Los Angeles has lost three in a row, one short of its season-
worst four-game losing streak Aug. 7-10, but still has the
Majors’ best record since Aug. 25, going 18-8 (.692).
The Dodgers have gone 50-25 (.667) at home this year,
which would tie for their second-best winning percentage in
Dodger Stadium history behind only their 55-27 mark (.671)
in 1980.
Today, the Dodgers recalled left-handed pitcher Adam
Liberatore and now have 37 players on their active roster.
THE BEST IN THE WEST: The Dodgers have only 13 games
remaining in the 2015 regular season, which will all be played against
divisional opponents. Los Angeles has gone 39-24 (.619) against NL
West clubs, on pace for its fifth-best all-time divisional record:
Dodgers’ Winning Pct. vs. NL West
1974 .700 (63-27)
2014 .658 (50-26)
2009 .639 (46-26)
1977 .622 (56-34)
2015 .619 (39-24)
Last night’s loss snapped the Dodgers’ nine-game home
winning streak against the D-backs, which dated to Sept. 5,
2014 and was the longest streak in the history of the series.
Los Angeles has already wrapped up the season series
between the clubs with an 11-5 record against Arizona,
including a 6-1 mark at Dodger Stadium this year.
STRONG IMPRESSION: Corey Seager has made 16 starts and has
reached base in all 16, which is the longest such streak in Los Angeles
Dodgers history:
LA Dodgers, Most Consec Starts Reaching Base to Start Career
Corey Seager 16 09/03/2015 - Current
Bill Russell 15 04/11/1969 - 04/27/1969
Hiram Bocachica 12 09/20/2000 - 05/29/2001
Don LeJohn 12 06/30/1965 - 08/08/1965
Al Ferrara 12 08/07/1963 - 05/05/1965
Source: Stats, LLC
Seager has gone 23-for-61 (.377) with a .479 on-base
percentage, eight doubles, two homers and 11 RBI in 17
games (16 starts) with the Dodgers. The last Dodger in
franchise history to reach base in his first 16+ career starts
was Jim Gilliam in 1953 (24).
ON THE HILL: Alex Wood is coming off the best start of his career
on Wednesday against Colorado, when he retired 24 of 25 batters
faced and allowed just one hit in 8.0 scoreless innings. With a win
tonight, he would surpass his 2014 win total (11, 11-11) and establish
a new single-season career mark.
Wood hopes to rebound from one of the worst outings of his
career the last time he faced the D-backs, Sept. 11 at Chase
Field, when he allowed eight runs (six earned) in 1.2 innings
in a loss. Prior to that outing, Wood had gone 1-1 with a 1.59
ERA (3 ER/17.0 IP) in five previous games (two starts)
against the D-backs.
ROUND-TRIPPERS: The Dodgers continue to lead the National
League with 176 home runs as eight different players – Adrian
Gonzalez (28), Joc Pederson (25), Yasmani Grandal (16), Justin
Turner (15), Andre Ethier (13), Jimmy Rollins (13), Alez
Guerrero (11) and Yasiel Puig (11) – have slugged double-digit
home runs this season, one shy of the most in franchise history:
Dodgers, Most Players w/ 10+ Home Runs in Season – All-Time
2004 9
2015 8
1979 8
1961 8
1953 8
Source: Stats, LLC
Adrian Gonzalez surpassed his 2014 home run total with his
28th home run of the season last night. It was his 33
rd home
run in 150 games against the D-backs, the most by any active
player and the third most all-time behind only Barry Bonds
(39) and Todd Helton (35).
Howie Kendrick is one homer shy of joining this group with
nine home runs in 107 games. Including 11 games prior to
his DL stint, he has hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games,
batting .362 (21-for-58) with three doubles, two homers and
10 RBI since July 28.
Yasmani Grandal established a career high with his 16th
home run last night, surpassing his previous mark of 15 set
last year with San Diego.
ON THE CUSP: Jimmy Rollins has been used sparingly over the last
two weeks as he continues to recover from a sprained right index
finger, but enters tonight’s game with 2,414 career hits, one shy of
tying Mickey Mantle (2,415) for the 14th most hits ever by a switch-
hitter.
Andre Ethier, a .328 career hitter (175-for-533) in 151
games against his hometown D-backs, enters today’s contest
just one double shy of 300 for his career and would become
just the fourth Los Angeles Dodger to reach that mark,
joining Steve Garvey (333), Willie Davis (321) and Eric
Karros (302).
BASEBALL’S GREATEST AMBASSADOR: The Dodgers would
like to wish a very happy 88th birthday to the one and only Tommy
Lasorda. Tommy shares his birthday with the legendary “Sweet” Lou
Johnson, who turns 81 today.
The birthday boys will both be on hand tonight to be honored
during pregame ceremonies along with other Dodger
employees with 25 or more years of service to the
organization. The 2015 season marks Lasorda’s 66th year
with the Dodgers and Johnson’s 34th.
