Are You Ready For 2-D Floodplain Modeling Using HEC-RAS v.5.0?
The full release of HEC-RAS 5.0 is coming this fall! Come learn about the new 2D modeling features from industry renowned experts in this 2.5 day training
in conjunction with the City of Austin &
Harris County Flood Control District
This intensive 2.5-day workshop will prepareyou use the newest version of the Hydrologic Engineering Center River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) software package for modeling two-dimensional (2-D) unsteady flow applications. You will learn how to approach and construct a 2-D model for unsteady flow conditions, as well as effectively view and analyze results.
Summary of Agenda:
Certificates of Completion will be awarded to class members who complete the class. The class will qualify for 15 Professional Development Hours (PDHs).
HEC-RAS 5.0 is currently in beta
Experience with unsteady modeling using HEC-RAS is highly recommended but not required for class participants.

Hands On 2.5 Day HEC-RAS 5.0 Workshop
Christopher R. Goodell, PE, D.WRE is a senior hydraulic engineer with WEST Consultants with over 20 years of experience in computational hydraulics, river hydraulics, and hydraulic design. He spent two years at the Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) actively working on the development of HEC-RAS. In addition, Christopher is a contributing author to the HEC-RAS manuals and has applied HEC-RAS to a wide range of complex problems, including dam breaks, bridge and culvert hydraulics, spillway and outlet works design, stable channel design, and floodplain mapping.
Marty Teal, PE, PH, D.WRE is Vice President of WEST Consultants with more than 25 years of experience with hydraulics, hydrology, and sediment transport. He has been involved with numerous floodplain studies, and frequently instructs continuing education courses for the ASCE. Marty is a registered Professional Engineer in California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii; a certified Professional Hydrologist; and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers. He he has a master’s in civil engineering (hydraulics) from the University of Iowa, and a bachelor’s in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
Matt Manges, PE, CFM is a manager with LAN and serves as company expert in 2-D stormwater modeling. He is a licensed professional engineer and certified floodplain manager specializing in complex dynamic stormwater modeling and GIS integration for civil engineering applications. Matt holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Texas A&M University. (Houston)
Led By HEC-RAS Experts
Chad Cormack, PE, CFM has experience with various dynamic and 2-D modeling software packages for both detailed analysis and design. He has used 2-D modeling for FEMA watershed studies, drainage master plans, site plan approval, transportation drainage design, detention pond design, and flood mitigation studies. Chad holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree from the University of Alaska; both in civil engineering. (Austin)
