Hello Ardmore Families!
The 2015-16 school year is off to a great start and I am excited about where Ardmore
is headed over the next several months! I appreciate all the support that parents have
given to our classrooms and parent events in September and October! In November,
we’ll begin providing various forums for parents to learn more about their child’s ed-
ucation, as well as provide input regarding various school systems and processes.
On November 5th at 5:00pm we hope you will attend our 2nd Parent Universi-
ty! Due to the amazing response from our school community last year at our inaugu-
ral Parent University, we will be holding two of these community events this year.
Ardmore’s Parent University is a tremendous opportunity for parents to learn more
about how to support their student’s learning at home. For the upcoming November
5th Parent University, we will be offering sessions for parents on the following top-
ics:
Keynote Speaker(s): Ardmore Student Ambassadors (4th/5th grade stu-
dents) “How can parents/families support my learning at home?”
Breakout Sessions: (parents will pick one!)
Kindergarten and 1st grade reading skills at home
2nd and 3rd grade reading skills at home
4th and 5th grade math skills at home
Social-Emotional Learning skills
Learning English as a Second Language
Please see the Parent University flyer on Page 3, which was also sent home with your
student in October. Transportation (four bus stops), dinner, childcare, Spanish inter-
preters, and door prizes will be provided! We hope to see you there!

On November 12th at 6:00pm I will host my first Eagle Chat of
the year. This is a town-hall style forum where I will present in-
formation to parents on a specific topic, and then allow for a
question/answer session. Our first Eagle Chat this year will be
about Positive Classroom Management strategies and what we’re
doing to implement positive discipline techniques throughout our
entire school. We’ve improved many of our discipline structures
for the 2015-16 school year, so this is a great opportunity for par-
ents to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the posi-
tive discipline initiatives at Ardmore Elementary.
Looking ahead at the calendar, we will be having our first Com-
munity Café evening at Ardmore on January 21st at 5:30pm. The
Community Café framework is designed to solicit feedback and
opinions from parents on a specific topic related to our school
improvement. The Community Café in June of last year yielded
very useful information that was directly used to create our
School Improvement Plan mission and goals. Our January Com-
munity Café will provide a forum for parent input in the areas of
teaching and learning at Ardmore Elementary. It will help the
school better understand what our diverse family population
needs in order to fully partner with the school and improve stu-
dent learning. I am excited about the ideas that will be generated
at this amazing event!
As always, thank you for your continued support and if you have
any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Chris
or myself!

(Continued from page 1) SES Tutoring Services
Students at Ardmore may be eligible for Supplemental Educational Services (SES). SES is free tutoring provided to low income families attending our school. There are many benefits to stu-dents receiving free tutoring, including specific help in reading/English-language arts, mathematics, and/or science. Tutor-ing is provided beyond the regular school day, and is delivered in a one-to-one set-ting or in small groups. A student learning plan is created addressing specific academ-ic needs. Parents/guardians will be con-sulted in developing their child’s learning plan. To qualify for this program, stu-dents must be receiving free or re-duced lunch. If you have questions, please contact the Title I Office at 425-456-4110, [email protected] or Family Connections Center at 425-456-4762.
Great opportunity to learn about Washington's learning standards and assessments

It's a great opportunity for Washington residents to learn more and ask questions.
