Admission to Master of Architecture Programme 2011-12 Students are admitted to the MArch programme via two funding schemes: UGC-funded and self-financed. The tuition fee for UGC-funded quota is $42,100 and for self-financed quota is $120,000 for 2010-11.The admission requirements for both schemes are the same. The places for the two schemes are given basedon the academic merit of the application. Information on the two funding schemes can be found at the Architecture School web-site <http://www.arch.cuhk.edu.hk>.

Requirements

1. Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in Architecture recognised by the country where the school is located2. Statement of purpose: explanation of your reasons for applying3. Portfolios a) of previous school work: evidence of your design abilities b) of independent work: expression of your professional interest4. Supporting material a) Record of practical experience Evidence that the requirements have been fulfilled b) References Evaluation form by employer (preferably direct supervisor) c) Other documents as required by the University

The portfolio of independent work should illustrate independent studies and your own work from practical experience and should be accompanied by a commentary of not more than 1500 words. There is no specific requirement for the format. It should be selected to fit best to the materials which you want to present. In general, the portfolio should inform in a concise way about your school and practical work. It should not be a loose collection of material; but be clearly structured to reflect your educational and practical experiences. In case of group and office work, your own contributions must be clearly stated. Please be reminded on the principles of academic honesty. Students who present other people's projects as their own will be withdrawn from the admission review process.

All application materials should be submitted directly to the School of Architecture not later than 28 February 2011. The evaluation and reference letters are confidential and should be sent directly by the referees. Admission to Master of Architecture Programme 2011-12Practical experience

The minimum period of practical experience is nine months and should be gained after the completion of an undergraduate architectural degree.

Of this, five consecutive months should be as a full-time employee in one architectural office, either in Hong Kong or abroad. The remaining four months can consist of equivalent experience. Equivalent experience is work in other areas of the construction industry, research or study in related fields, or community development projects.

For each instance of practical experience, applicants should provide evidence from the employer stating the start and end dates of employment, the position, and that it was full-time.

Applicants with a 5-year professional undergraduate degree in Architecture recognised by the country where the school is located, can be waived of the requirement for practical training.

Applicants with a 4-year professional undergraduate degree in Architecture recognised by the country where the school is located, can fulfil the requirement for practical training with 9 months of cumulative relevant full-time working experience gained during or after their respective degree programme.

It is advisable to consult in advance with CUHK faculty responsible for admissions and practical training on questions of acceptable equivalent experience. Conditional offers will be given to applicants who have fulfilled all requirements except those for practical experience by the time the offer is made. An applicant with a conditional offer is required to submit the evidence for fulfilling practical experience by 15 July 2011. The ultimate judgement and decision as to whether the conditions for admission are fulfilled by the applicantsshould be rested with the School of Archtiecture. As a general policy, no refund of deposit will be arrangedfor conditional offers except under special circumstances as deemed necessary by the School of Archtiecture.
