Design Process

• Involving you in every step of the way the Haywards bespoke experience typically takes 3 weeks from the initial idea to the finished custom piece. Whether you have a rough idea or a specific design in mind we encourage you to make an appointment at our studio and discuss your project. Haywards expert designers and diamond specialists are here to provide you with both practical and creative advice to help you turn your dream piece of jewellery into reality.

• Once you have decided upon your unique design and a proposed budget is established, Haywards find a wide selection of stones that meet your criteria in terms of shape, size, quality and cost. A comprehensive consultation with one of our diamond experts ensures that your selected stone is a result of a clear and informed decision.

 

• After choosing your stones and finalizing design ideas we then move on to 3D CAD imaging. From initial sketches and images we work to render your design in a computer-aided design (CAD) drawing. This brings the design to life and enables us to create your piece to the highest degrees of accuracy and precision.

• Using cutting edge technology a 3D wax model is then printed outlining the general shape of the piece.

• Next we revert back to traditional techniques using a method called ‘lost wax casting’ to cast the metal of your choice; 18K rose, white or yellow gold, or platinum.

• Finally our master jewellers carefully set the stones by hand and thoroughly polish and finish the piece.

Diamond and Gem Consultation

Choosing the perfect diamond and gem can prove to be a complicated task, even for those who have purchased fine jewellery in the past. At Haywards, through our comprehensive consultation process we ensure that each decision made is clear and informed.

Each and every diamond and gem is sourced and tailored to the specific requirements of our customers. By explaining the essential 4C’s and showing the different quality stones first hand; we are able to explore a myriad of choices. Based on the particular criteria; the shape, the size, the colour, clarity and cost we offer the opportunity to examine a wide selection of diamonds and gems without any obligation to purchase.All our diamonds come with a G.I.A certificate of authenticity, and are sourced ethically, complying with all U.N regulations.

The Haywards Team

Although officially the managing director; David actually has a hands on role in the design and sales of Haywards’ bespoke jewellery. Having worked in a casting room, David has a technical appreciation as well as an eye for jewellery style. He also has a forte for explaining the complexities of diamond grading and providing direction for jewellery design.

Paul established the production strategy for Haywards and was instrumental in developing both the hand made and digital design aspects of our jewellery manufacturing. With more than 25 years experience of working in Asia, Paul also brings a broad range of jewellery and precious stone suppliers to the business.

With over 40 years combined experienced in the industry the Haywards team comprised of design experts, diamond specialists and master jewellers who will guide you through your bespoke journey.

 Natalia is a GIA qualified Jewellery Professional with a talent for design; both free hand and on the Mac. She provides an expert’s eye for diamond selection and is currently designing her own signature range for Haywards. Natalia is also the creative muse behind the Haywards advertising and website design.

Ricky coordinates between the sales and production teams; he provides the direction for the computer assisted design and follows each piece of jewellery as it moves between the different stages of production.

Reconstruction and Repairs

ReconstructionIf you have items of value that sit in your jewellery box never worn; you may want to consider using the stones to have a new bespoke design handcrafted. Reconstruction of jewellery is quite different from repair; usually involving either amending the item significantly, or removing the stone and making a new design altogether. At Haywards we specialize in creating pieces that are entirely new but hold the sentiment of the previous piece. Whatever your wish, we are here to turn it into reality.

F & Q’s

• How Long Does Bespoke Jewellery Take to Make?

This really depends on complexity of the design, but typically it takes our workshop around 2-3 weeks to finish each project. For engagement rings, choosing the diamonds can often take more than one appointment, so it is best to allow for an extra week on top of our production time.

• Which Types of Metal Can I Choose From?

We fashion 18k gold in yellow, white and rose colours and we can also make platinum jewellery. We are happy to advise the best precious metals based on the design and your existing jewellery. For example if you are wearing two rings together, it is preferable that they are both the same metal, otherwise they are likely to cause abrasions to each other.

• Can You Assure That Your Diamonds are from Ethical Sources?

Yes! We ensure that we only source diamonds from credible companies that are either DTC sight holders or can demonstrate that they are buying rough or polished diamonds from legitimate sources. We are committed to compliance with United Nations resolutions regarding this matter.

• Where Is The Jewellery Workshop Located?

Our showroom is located in Sheung Wan, once the design is confirmed and the stone selected everything is then transferred to our jewellery workshop in Hung Hom, here the designs becomes a reality.

• Are Your Diamonds Certified?

Yes! We supply all diamonds 0.50ct (half carat) and higher with a GIA certificate and a laser inscription. For jewellery items with lots of smaller diamonds and/or coloured gemstones, we can arrange for an IGI Jewellery Report.

Our showroom is open from 10:00am to 6:30pm Monday to Saturday. It is located on the 9th floor on 233 Hollywood Road in the Hollywood Center, Sheung Wan.
