PART 1: What I’ve learned

ALineIsADot

Twin buildings facing each other - I work on the 4th floor.

What I’ve learned: A sketch app I use lets you create mirroring images. This accidental discovery helped me decide what subject I should work on. Accidental discoveries are much more fun than planned ones.

PART 1: What I’ve learned

2

OnesDestination

The “place” I had in mind was top of the mountains in the middle of the night. The top image is created on a page of my National Geographic magazine. As you can see, the text cascades in a shape of a mountain. The moon is a cut out piece of a

white sponge that I placed on the corner of the page. The diagram hints and highlights what the place may be.

What I’ve learned: Modifying a ready-made piece by using shapes and diagrams can change the dynamics of the original piece and turn it into something more playful.

PART 1: What I’ve learned

3

VoyageDansLaLune

I live in a well-lighted city where view of the moon isn’t so spectacular. This moon is a collage piece of the different aspects of the moon that I find interesting – of-legend, sun-reflecting, and technology-testing.

What I’ve learned: Collage is fun.

PART 1: What I’ve learned

4

YouGottaHave

This “body” is a female body. This body is mobile, balanced, interactive and fertile.

What I’ve learned: Interpretation seems to be the first active step in transformation.

PART 1: What I’ve learned

5

DoorsOfPerception

This vase is a transparent one sitting under a window filtering and distorting sunrays.

What I’ve learned: A missing subject and remaining distorted light is very difficult to express.

6

PART 2: What I’ve learned from others

#ALineIsADot By @silvawood http://instagram.com/p/zKD-X6rigF

This person’s work is simple and expressive.

What I’ve learned: This line plays with mass – whole and divided.

PART 2: What I’ve learned from others

7

#PlayItByTrust By @silvawood http://instagram.com/p/x9bMTOrijk

I wasn’t able to take my version to a “higher level” as this one. This work is very expressive.

What I’ve learned: Actual stamps of a subject at an unfamiliar angle may be an honest and fun way to express it.

PART 2: What I’ve learned from others

8

#BeSureYou By @alesxfontes_id http://instagram.com/p/zLudfgC7qK

This body map is quite straightforward and stylish at the same time.

What I’ve learned: Mind, body and place are scattered and plotted in a way that expresses motion and force.

PART 2: What I’ve learned from others

9

#DoorsOfPerception By @asjonak http://instagram.com/p/xzpO65gpiS

Salt shaker!

What I’ve learned: Masses reveal vase’s edges.

PART 2: What I’ve learned from others

10

#HumanBehaviourFlows By @ allnewyear http://instagram.com/p/y_DmD_viHt

This person’s place seems to be very crowded.

What I’ve learned: Perspective, force, and direction makes this piece very interesting.

PART 3: My Place

WhatMakesTheDesert

My previous collage had recognizable things. So I tried to get more abstract with this one. However, the eye-like shape seems to personify the center object. This place is my car in a sunshining day feeling fired up to pave through the day.

PART 3: My Place

12

BeSureYou

The place is my neighborhood. It’s a surburban city where tall buildings and a wide 10-lane road sits next to a slow running stream with wild ducks and white herons nesting.

PART 3: My Place

13

HumanBehaviourFlows

This place is my neighborhood. I wish I had made it a little more abstract!

PART 3: My Place

14

NoManIs

The place is my office. Do not stop! Keep moving forward if you want to survive!

PART 3: My Place

15

ThisWorldIs

This place is my room where my creative energy is at its peak. The dog in the image is Laika, the first living animal sent to space.
