Five Course Themes for HRE 1O1
• Creation• Covenant• Salvation• Theology• Christology
What the I.S.U. is Requiring you to do
• Select 1 (one) course theme• Connect it to:– One Book in the Old Testament– One of the four Gospels– One Book in the New Testament that is NOT a Gospel
• Compare and contrast how the theme is depicted in each of the three books
• Thesis: Does the Bible deal with this theme consistently or inconsistently?
Creation
• Physical Creation in Genesis • God established chosen race in Old
Testament• In the New Testament, creation
continues with God establishing his Church
• Re-Creation in Jesus of perfect image of humanity (St. Paul, John, Revelations)
• New Creation in Revelation
Covenant
• Adam And Eve• Noah• Moses• David• Maccabees• Jesus • Ongoing or continuation?
Salvation (Soteriology)
• Refers to being saved• What is humanity being saved
from?• Saved from Sin? Death? Satan?
Being Cut off from God? Our own corrupt nature?
• How is Humanity saved?• Through Jesus? Covenants?
Sacrifice?
Theology
• Theo literally means “God”• Ology literally means “Study of”• What does the Bible reveal
about God• Who or what is God?• What is the nature of God?• What properties or attributes
are linked to God?
Christology
• Study of who Christ is?• Theologically who is he?• Historically who is he?• Messiah/Christ• Old Testament predictions
about his coming• New Testament, fulfillment
of God’s promise to send the Christ (Christos)
