Tensile structures are now an acceptable buildingmaterial, permitting the design of exciting roofforms that would be almost impossible withtraditional building methods. Not only do tensilestructures offer the variety of form, but alsotranslucency, colour, clearspan and softness. Thesestructures are lightweight using tension to createthe three dimensional form. Such structures havebeen developed since the 1970’s and now offersome of the most dramatic architectural works todate. Membrane structures span generations intheir durability, offering in excess of 30 years oflifespan, and fire retardency up to Class O.

External FabricStructures

The structures are all prefabricated toengineered drawings and calculations, withsome membranes being as large as 1000 sq.mbefore reaching site. The size of the overallstructure can be relatively unlimited whenemploying site joints. Applicationsinclude : entrances, walkways, features, sportsstadia, atria, retail, exhibitions, and landmarks.

Design

We offer full design, engineered drawingsand calculations. The engineer will takethe architectural brief and commence thedesign with a series of generalarrangements, following client’s approval, then develop the general arrangementsinto full production model and drawings.Creating the 3D form with specialistsoftware and extracting the parts whichmake up the structure will providefabrication shop drawings.

All the parts which make up the structureare C.N.C nested to minimise materialwastage and cut to ensure millimetreperfect accuracy. The 3D membrane modelwill have geodesic seams which createindividual panels which are joined bywelding. Prior to fabrication, samples of thematerials are tested for quality, the factoryalso ensures it’s welding strength by seamtesting on our in-house 25kN tensiletesting machine.

Our single source of supply approach totensile structures utilises our in house design, project management, steel fabrication, membrane fabrication and installation services. Our erectors have many years experience inthe field and ensure that health and safety isparamount at all times. Throughout the designphase we always consult our erectors toensure that the structure is designed to beerected easily and safely.

Membrane Lite

Using the latest developments and technologieswhich have been engineered over the last thirtyyears in the field of tensioned membranestructures, we offer Membrane-Lite. Themembrane forms are all anti-clastic and use prestressing techniques to ensure perfect tensionand longevity.

The products offered within the Membrane-Lite range of structures are ideally suited formeeting points, shading purposes, walkways, entrances, car parking shades, and coveredseating areas. All structures are modular inthat no matter how many are ordered for aproject, they can be linked together to form asingle structure.

Interior FabricArchitecture &TensionedCeilings

Through years of experience in external fabricarchitecture, we have designed interior sails andstructures using the same technologieshowever with more refined and intricatedetailing. The emphasis on the detail design isso important with the sail and itsattachments being much more apparent inSome installations.

The fabrics we employ are fire retardent toEuroclasse B S2 DO or British Standards 476Class O. These will be PVC coated polyesteror glass fibre with a vast library of colours tochoose from. The fittings are all marine gradestainless steel 316, and membrane platespolished.

Whether for vaulted, inclined, horizontal orcurved surfaces. We offer unparalleledflexibility. Our fabric enables large surface-areasto be covered with pre-manufactured one-piecepanels (up to 200 m2). Its technicalcharacteristics guarantee operational uniformityand durability.

The membrane is an extra strong, aeratedtextile that is corrosion-proof and easy tomaintain. It offers the possibility of playingwith light, materials and shapes, giving volumeand colour to the ceiling.Installation is made easy using our modularceiling panel system, by combining extrusionjointing and then tensioning using calibratedstainless steel traction springs on the outsidefabric boundaries
