CANSA Shavathon is
one of South Africa’s best
-loved events in support
of a very worthy cause,
namely showing solidarity
with those affected by
cancer. Losing one’s hair
is a common side-effect
of cancer therapy – so
shaving your head has
become a symbolic ges-
ture of support for can-
cer survivors.
Colouring your hair or
paying a Bail Out Fee
have become options for
those who prefer not to
shave, or who can’t shave
on the day.
For those who like to be
actively engaged and to
make a difference, Sha-
vathon embraces volun-
teers. Their support is
invaluable.
2014 was the 11th
national CANSA
Shavathon, independ-
ently managed by CANSA
staff and volunteers.
784 Shavathons were
organised, made up of
274 work places, of which
CAI was one, 200
schools, 10 sporting
events, 285 malls and 15
other organisations.
Out in the field were, 79
269 thousand cans of
spray, 1 318 Wahl Clip-
pers, 5142 stencils, 947
capes, 818 bibs, 6000
posters and a whopping
53 090 CANSA wraps,
and 10915 UV wraps.
See below how the sha-vathon grew from strength
to strength in the last 10
years.

CAI had its 3rd golf day on 11 April 2014 at the Blue Valley Golf Estate and albeit
that we again had a full field of some 120 players.
The cocktail party was attended by 180 guests.
Judging by the mails of appreciation for being invited to the golf day and cocktail
party it can be concluded it was a hugely successful day.
It was decided this year to support the and a donation of
R 60 000-00 was made to the charity. Not only do we need to thank Aaltjie and
the CAI team for being involved with this great day a special thanks was also ex-
tended to the sponsors whom contributed to make this day possible.
In the line up for the prizes it was reassuring to see not to many CAI engineers in
the top listing, meaning that they are too busy on projects to attend to their
handicaps. A special thanks is therefore again extended to all of those involved in
the golf day and manning our T-box ensuring al the players had a few shooters as
well as all of those whom participated in making it such a success.
We are sure many relationships with clients had been renewed as the golf day
always afford us the opportunity to interact with our most valued clients on a
social basis.

Baby Eduan Meyer was born on
13 April 2014 at 08h28.
Weighing only 1.024 kg, with a
length of 36cm, baby Eduan is his
Mommy Arina, Harry’s daughter in-
law, and Daddy, Harry Jr.’s pride
and joy.
Eduan needs to gain some weight
before he can go
home but he is
healthy and
strong and the
doctors are all
happy with his
progress. Above: Eduan’s tiny little
hand on Daddy’s fingertip.
Born on the 28th of March 2014, the
Brand family welcomes baby Sofia.
Sofia has an older brother Izak who will
be the “protector” of his baby sister.
Weight : 3.19kg
Eureka went in on the 27th of September 2013 to give
birth via c-section to baby Bertram. From the spinal
injection to numb the lower part of the body, the spi-
nal, to where Bertram was actually born, took about 30
min or so. Baby B was a healthy 3.535kg with the cool-
est hair a new born can have… all bed head.
Eureka has been back since the start of February and
can’t believe that she is now the proud “owner” of a 7
month old “RUG RAT”
Louis and Alicia got married since
they have last been mentioned in
our news letter.
Louis proposed in Central Park,
New York in the heart of the win-
ter.
Alicia is a grade 3 teacher and
loves working with the little ones.
They celebrated this beautiful day
with family and friends as well as
some colleagues, on the 16th of
December 2013.
They painted Lamberts Bay red and
everyone was tired by the time the
wedding day arrived.
Needless to say the day was per-
fect., the bride stunningly beautiful,
Louis was all handsome in his suit
and everyone had a great time.
Louis and Alicia spent their honey-
moon in Mauritius. A nice tropical
getaway
They love spend- ing time
together as a family and enjoy
life to the fullest.
Nancy and her hubby, better
known as Lappies, are real
“boks for sports” as can be
seen in the “dress up” photo
on the right.
Conrad and Nancy feel
blessed with her getting the
position at CAI and she is
enjoying the new venture.
Nancy Labuscagne, started
with CAI early 2014.
She is a professional Account-
ant and is registerd with
SAIPA board of accountants.
Her husband Conrad is

Kim tied the knot at a “All
White” wedding on the 26th of
September 2013.
It was a beautiful garden wedding
held at the The Koi Farm Walk-
erville.
Kaylen Trompetter (the now
husband) decided after knowing
Kim for about 6 years it is time
to propose to her …
“Where and when??”

Strategically located within the
city centre and incorporating
an innovative, integrated
green design approach, the
elegant Portside building fea-
tures over 52000m² of prime
AAA office space.
Portside is perfectly posi-
tioned at the very heart of
Cape Town’s city centre.
Occupying an entire city
block, the building is bordered
by Buitengracht, Hans Stri-
jdom, Bree and Mechau
streets on the edge of the
emerging financial Foreshore
district.
With spectacular, panoramic
views of the city, port, iconic
Table Mountain and the Atlan-
tic seaboard, Portside is con-
veniently close to the Victoria
and Alfred Waterfront, Cape
Town International Conven-
tion Centre and Cape Town
International Airport.
This prime location offers
swift access to all inner-city
and bordering commercial
areas, with its landmark ad-
dress being both prestigious
and easy to locate.
At a 139m high, Portside will
be the tallest building in Cape
Town.
Portside— Cape Town’s Tallest Building
Tall Green and Healthy... A key consideration, throughout the
entire design and construction proc-
ess of the Portside building, has been
to ensure that the project success-
fully incorporates green building prin-
ciples in order to achieve a 4-Green
Star SA Office rating as administered
by the Green Building Council of SA
(GBCSA). The 4-Green Star rating
will place the Portside in a select
group of the most sustainable build-
ings to date in South Africa.
In order to successfully construct an
efficient, sustainable green building, a
well-integrated design approach
needed to be adopted; and Old Mu-
tual, First Rand Bank and the archi-
tectural and construction teams were
all committed to this methodology.
Throughout the design stages and
during construction, the incorpo-
ration of green building principles
was monitored and evaluated to
ensure the successful achieve-
ment of Portside’s Green Star SA
Office rating– which will ulti-
mately showcase innovative green
design in South Africa, create an
exceptionally healthy working en-
vironment and practically demon-
strate sustainable design for Cape
Town.
