Coolamon Shire Celebrates Youth Week 2018

Impressive crowds attended Youth Week events held within the Coolamon Shire. Youth Week was held from 13 April to 20 April and as an opportunity for young people to express their ideas and views, act on issues that affect their lives, and create and enjoy activities and events.

Coolamon Shire Council supported Youth Week by kicking off with ‘Coolamon Youth Fest’. This was a night of a silent disco, acoustic musicians, street food, henna tattoos and a giant screen for Wii games.

A large crowd of over 150 turned up at the Up-to-Date store open air auditorium to see impressive performances by local musicians Georgia Armstrong, Belee Kadmon-Jones and Isabelle Furner.

This event was supported by Coolamon CDAT, Coolamon Shire Council and Intereach Ability Links. CDAT is a community group funded by the Australian Drug Foundation to address local drug and alcohol misuse or issues impacting the community.

Lots of fun was had at the Coolamon touch fields with over 50 participants joining in for Nerf Warz and Archery Tag.

Coolamon Skate Park was a hive of activity for the Street Art Mural project with 30 participants. Graffiti artist Styles 400 was impressed with the local talent and helped to contribute to the new skate park mural.

2018 has seen a successful Youth Week program, with around 250 participants across

the week. This has been a great opportunity for youth to take advantage of new

opportunities while meeting new people and learning new skills.
