Message from Monsignor René Mathieu: (1) Last week, Sister Terry Gauvin, SCIM, the Provincial Superior of the
Good Shepherd Sisters, informed me that she had heard from the General
Superior, Sister Theresa Rounds, SCIM, in Quebec that the General
Council is again pledging a gift of $25,000 for the 2016-2017 school year
in support of St. James School. The gift is earmarked for student financial
aid, and reflects the mission of the Good Shepherd Sisters. Since June
2011, we have received annual gifts of $25,000, and the latest gift will total $150,000
overall. When the first installment was received in 2011, the Good Shepherd Parish
Catholic Education Board created the Marie Fitzbach Scholarship Fund in honor of
the founder of the Good Shepherd Sisters. I hope parishioners and friends will consider
additional contributions or bequests to this fund as a way to express appreciation for the
good works of the sisters over the years, and their continuing presence in our community.
By the way, both Sister Theresa and Sister Terry are Biddeford natives. (2) Assignment
of Priests: The following changes were published on April 9: Effective August 1,
Fr. Gregory P. Dube, formerly parochial vicar for Good Shepherd Parish, and currently
pastor of Holy Savior Parish (Rumford/Bethel), has been appointed rector of the Cathe-dral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland and pastor of the other Portland Peninsula
& Island Parishes (Portland/Peaks Island). Effective July 1, Fr. Thomas M. Murphy,
currently pastor of Holy Spirit Parish (Wells/Kennebunk/Ogunquit), has been appointed
pastor of All Saints Parish (Brunswick/Bath/Boothbay Harbor/Richmond/Newcastle/
Harpswell). Effective July 1, Fr. Fredrick H. Morse, currently parochial vicar at All
Saints Parish (Brunswick/Bath/Boothbay Harbor/Richmond/Newcastle/Harpswell), has
been appointed pastor of Holy Spirit Parish (Wells/Kennebunk/Ogunquit). Effective
July 1, Fr. Frank J. Murray, currently pastor of All Saints Parish (Brunswick/Bath/
Boothbay Harbor/Richmond/Newcastle/Harpswell), has been appointed pastor of
St. Paul the Apostle Parish (Bangor, and parishes in Brewer/Hampden/Winterport).
Effective August 1, Fr. Nathan D. March, currently parochial vicar in Gorham/
Westbrook/Windham while assisting at the hospitals in Portland, has been appointed
pastor of Holy Savior Parish (Rumford/Bethel). Effective August 1, Fr. Michael J.
Seavey, currently administrator of the Cathedral and pastor of the other Portland Penin-
sula & Island Parishes, has been appointed parochial vicar in Gorham/Westbrook/
Windham. Effective August 1, Fr. Claude R. Gendreau, currently serving three-
quarters of his time as a notary in the tribunal handling annulment cases and a quarter
of his time as rector of the Cathedral, has been assigned to full-time ministry in the
diocesan tribunal. (3) Jubilee Year of Mercy (April) - Forgive Offenses and Bear
Wrongs Patiently - This week’s suggestion: Prayerfully reflect on your own actions. Is
there a behavior, such as gossip, that might be causing offense to others? If so, strive to
change. (4) Thank You of the Week: Despite a very cold and windy day, many mem-
bers of the community attended the benefit Community Concert at St. Joseph Church
on April 3. I am grateful to the organizers and sponsors, especially the Knights of
Columbus and other parishioners who organized the event, along with the children,
youth and adults who shared their talents with us. Thank you!

Donations to food pantries at all our churches: This week: canned tuna / canned chicken
A very large Thank You goes out to the many parishioners who planned or participated in
various Lenten or Easter activities or services. Some of these events/services were Lenten
Vespers, Stations of the Cross, Behold Holy Hours, Tenebrae, crafting and attachment of the counted cross stitching on our parish Paschal
Candles, and Most Holy Trinity’s Easter Vigil Mass. These services do not just happen; they are planned carefully for our spiritual enrichment.
The Triduum service at St. Joseph Church provided 3 evenings of passion, sorrow, acceptance, comfort & joy, as we came together as a
parish for this beautiful liturgy, and prepared ourselves for the glorious Easter morning Masses throughout the parish. Whether you planned, prayed, adored, read, sang, shared reflections, donated used palms for ashes, tended the fire, carried the cross or Paschal Candle, decorated,
cleaned, crafted, or served, you were part of this wondrous time in our liturgical calendar…Thank you!
Good Shepherd Parish: Communion to the Sick and Homebound
The need continues to grow as the requests for visits increase. As a result, we are always looking for vol-
unteers to give of their talents and time in this way. If you would like to become a Eucharist minister to the homebound, please contact the

MY FRIEND AND I STORYTIME
Fridays, 11-11:30 am in April and May
Parishioners, come and join our librarian as she has a storytime for young children (ages 0 to kindergarten) at Saint James School. Mrs. Souza plans to start and end each session
with a song. She will read from quality literature each week, and if time permits, have a related activity. Grandparents, parents, or any
parishioner can come with a child under school age. You must stop in the office and sign in, and then you will be
directed into the Library. There is no fee, and it is a good oppor-tunity to expose your child to quality literature, meet other parish-ioners with children the same age as yours, and see our School.

There is no Second Collection This Weekend.
Second Collection Next Weekend - Catholic Home Missions: Many dioceses here in the United States do not have enough priests to serve poorer parishes. These dioceses, classified as home missions, cannot pro-vide for the unique needs of their parish communities. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal supports these dioceses by funding essential ministries, including seminary education and lay ministry training. Please help strengthen the Church at home through your generosity to this appeal.

Good Shepherd Parish Christmas Fair: Nov. 11-13, 2016 Our next Christmas Fair meeting will be May 5th at 6:30 PM at the St. Joseph Church Hall. We will be looking for volunteers to help stuff envelopes very soon. Keep an eye out in the bulletin for more details.
We would like to encourage you to start putting books aside for the Christmas Fair. The Children's Section is looking to expand, and with your

A Day to Recognize & Support Parishioners Who Serve those in Need: On Apr. 30 at MHT,
Parish Social Ministry is holding a workshop from 9 am to 2:30 pm, with a service project after. The workshop is a forum to connect social justice
minded people in Southern Maine, to share ideas, and learn from each other. Deacon Candidate, Mark Tuttle, will be a featured speaker. The service
project is to help facilitate a collection of e-waste (old computers & other out-of-date electronics) at the church, which will go to Goodwill. FMI/to

You are invited to join us for a concert called, It’s All About Love, with soprano Marie-Line Morin, accompanied by pia-nists. Lucille Fortin and Jan Bordeleau, on Sat., Apr. 30, at 7:00 pm at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Manchester. Dr.
Morin will sing sacred, classical and popular songs, including French songs, while sharing reflections about her journey as a French Canadi-an immigrant. Professor at Laval University in Quebec, she recently came to the U.S. to care for two of her siblings having a disability, which led to a Listening Ministry project, associated with the Institute of Psychoreligious Counseling that she founded.
