“Growing in Faith Together
- Part 2: Commitment”
This Sunday we have a special day with
the baptism of a baby, little Natalie-
Dawn Janiec, daughter of Kathy Janiec.
If anyone was in attendance at our 7
PM Christmas Eve service you will re-
call that little Natalie was the baby Je-
sus in the nativity play. It is nice to wel-
come back the Janiecs to our church as
we welcome them into the Christian
family of faith.
In Baptism, we make commitments of
faith and family. For many, a baptism is
a rite of passage and a blessing to their
family. But in reality Baptism is a wel-
coming into the body of Christ and into
the faith family. In Baptism, the congre-
gation makes promises to support and
encourage the newly baptized on their
faith journey. In baptism, the individual
makes promises to follow the teachings
of the church and to live faithfully.
The worship service this week will be
focused on the commitments we make
through baptism, marriage, relation-
ships with others, the commitment we
make to the church and the commit-
ment we make to God.
We are currently in the midst of our major
Vision and Stewardship campaign and
we are on a journey of faith as a commu-
nity of believers. A big part of being a
part of the church is around the commit-
ments we make to this congregation. For
decades people have been committing
and supporting this church through their
time, talents and financial offerings. Each
of these is vitally important to the health
and wellbeing of the church. When the
church is supported by faithful, committed
people we are stronger and more able to
live out the vision that God has planned
for us. We are more able to live out the
great commission of Christ to “go and
make disciples of all nations”.
Commitments are central to our faith and
Christ encourages us to be committed to
following God faithfully through our daily
lives as we live out our baptismal vows.
The Scripture Readings this week:
Acts 4: 23-37 2 Corinthians 8:1-15
Sermon:
Commitments that Matter!

SHARING ONE MODEL OF HOW CHURCHES CAN WORK TOGETHER:
"CLUSTERING" AND "COOPERATIVES - POSTPONED
THIS MEETING HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO SATURDAY, MAY 2nd, 2015 (instead of this Saturday,
April11th) because of a death.
Please join us on Saturday May 2nd, 2015, 9 a.m. to noon at Knox United Church, Caledon Village
(at the corner of highway 10 and route 124) to hear Rev. Ralph Schmidt explain the concept of United
Church "Cooperatives". This cluster model has been developed successfully in Bruce Presbytery in
Hamilton Conference and is a way for churches to continue to worship in their own building and build
relationships with neighbouring congregations. They do this by sharing ministers and utilizing lay worship
leaders. Ralph is presently one of the two leaders of this cluster. Please see their website:
www.bruceuccooperative.ca.
All are welcome: clergy, session members, stewards, board members, and any interested members from
our churches or greater community.
Bonus: Knox United Church will be serving breakfast at 8 a.m. A suggested free will offering of $5.00
would help to defray our costs and would be gratefully appreciated.
Please reply to [email protected] or leave a message at the church 519 927 3320. If you are
not sure until the day, please come, we always seem to have enough. We hope to see you on May 2nd
instead of April 11th. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused anyone.

Humour Corner
A kindergarten teacher was walking around observing her classroom of children while
they were drawing pictures. As she got to one girl who was working diligently, she asked
what the drawing was.
The girl replied, "I'm drawing God."
The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."
Without looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, "They will in a minute."

GRANT’S WORLD GRANT’S WORLD GRANT’S WORLD
Last Friday was a blessed day. From 10 AM to 10 PM we held our first ever prayer vigil. I began the day
by opening the prayer vigil with a prayer and was in and out during the day. Throughout the day there
were many who came to pray, sit, play music, read or just be in the presence of God. Marlene brought
some Maple water to drink. I don’t think I have ever had a full cup of maple water straight from the tree.
This small taste of nature helped to ground us in God’s space and allow us to be open to the indwelling
of the spirit during our vigil.
Near the end of the day we held a Taize service led by Sula Anne Kosacky. This was so meaningful and
helped us be centered on the prayer concerns in our faith community. In the last hour we shared in Holy
Communion with one another. This was a most meaningful time as we focused on God.
Overall the day was wonderful and we owe a huge thanks to Marlene Beitz for being our prayer director.
This prayer vigil really helped set the tone as we continue to move through our vision and stewardship
campaign. God is at work though our church and we are blessed.
On Sunday afternoon, I had the privilege to head down to Moss Park in Toronto with some of our young
people. We served a hot meal to about 80 homeless or poor people. We served pasta, soup, buns,
salad, chips and water. The guests who received the meal were so happy to see us and we felt blessed
and humbled by the opportunity to serve in Christ’s name.
Blessings to you.
See you on Saturday at our Spring Fest Community Auction sale.
