Notes from the March Parent MeetingThe Learning Center had some exciting visitors last month. Letty Rising, apotential new teacher with Montessori training up to a 6th grade level, came tomeet the children and observe the classroom. She expressed great interest injoining on as a teacher and Mattole is ready to hire her on if she agrees to takethe position. Representatives from Mattole also came to observe the schooland they were very impressed with the program and told Sharon that we donot need to worry about budget cuts. The big news of the meeting was thatSharon announced that she will be leaving the upper and lower elementarystudents and returning to Sprouts. Kinders will also be returning to Sprouts.Next year, the Learning Center will be 1st through 6th grade. Anaswara haschosen not to work and will continue her studies. Myra and Lorry will bekeeping their teaching positions.
Drama ClassLorry is currently working with the children on “The Great Lessons Play,” basedon the “great lessons” given by Maria Montessori telling about the birth of theUniverse. Lower elementary practice on mondays afternoons and upperelementary practice Tuesday afternoons. All of the children will be acting, somewill also be playing a musicical instrument. Lorry has made some changes to theplay, including the addition of a poem written about the creation of Earth andmusic has been added as well. Myra will be directing the music and perhapscomposing some also. According to Lorry, “the children reallyenjoy working on this, and put themselves totally into it!”
