Project Rationale and Objectives
Rationale• We want to build the SW (Info overload, task delegation), but do not want to loose content of
current Web- HTML will remain a dominant web language for many years- Database generated pages will gain popularity (.com)
• XML/RDF/... family will slowly take over Objectives
• Bridge between current Web and SW (Upgrading existing content)• Added value applications on top of SW

First SW projects: IBROW3 (Esprit), IBROW (IST)
The World-Wide Web is changing the nature of software development to a distributive plug & play process.
IBROW3 integrates research on heterogeneous databases, interoperability and web technology with knowledge-system technology and ontologies.
The project, thus, aims at providing intelligent reasoning services on the Web, as opposed to the more common information services.
The broker needs to reason about characteristics of PSMs, for example about their competence
