Privacy policy

1. The personal data collected from applicants and/or their parents/guardians pursuant to this application

form will be used by the Singapore International School (Hong Kong) ("SISHK") and The Singapore

International School Foundation Limited (“SISFL”) for various purposes including but not limited to:

o assessing the suitability of applicants for places in SISHK or SISFL;

o processing applications for admissions;

o verification of the applicant's examination results, academic records and other information;

o school administration and operation after admissions;

o statistical and research purposes;

o other school related purposes;

2. Personal data of applicants and their parents/guardians collected pursuant to this application form will be

handled by relevant SISHK or SISFL staff members and will be kept confidential.

3. SISHK or SISFL may disclose some of the data to third parties such as agencies (including the Hong

Kong government), service providers and contractors (whether within or outside Hong Kong) appointed

by SISHK or SISFL to undertake some of its academic, pastoral and administrative functions. This

includes transferring data between SISHK and SISFL.

4. Apart from the parties listed above, SISHK or SISFL will not disclose any personal data to any external

bodies or organisations unless:

o such disclosure is expressly provided for under this Statement;

o permitted to do so by the applicant or his/her parent/guardian; and/or

o permitted or required by law.

5. Personal data may be stored in the SISHK or SISFL database systems and online portals and whether the

application is successful, such personal data will form part of the applicant's official student records.

6. In schools where there are Parent Teacher Associations (PTA), SISHK or SISFL may provide such

personal data to the relevant PTA for PTA activities.

7. SISHK or SISFL may place student’s photo, name or school work in SISHK or SISFL website for

publications.

8. In the event where a student already has a sibling in an SISHK or SISFL, the school records of such

sibling may be updated according to the data provided on the new student's application form where

relevant.

9. Failure to provide the requested data may result in SISHK or SISFL being unable to process the

application and influence the outcome of the application.

Warning against bribery

1. Apart from the prescribed application fee, if applicable, no other fees are required to be paid in

connection to submission of this application.

2. Offering advantages to SISHK and the schools’ staff in relation to the application may constitute a

bribery offence under the laws of Hong Kong.

3. Should any information provided be found false, SISHK reserves the right to restrict the admissions

entry or withdraw the admissions offer.

4. There is a non-refundable and non-transferable application fee for one application of one applicant per

academic year, and that the collection of fee constitutes no assurance that a school place will be offered.

PART I - GENERAL INFORMATION

Singapore International School (Hong Kong) is a unique school outside Singapore that is guided closely by the Singapore education philosophy. Established in September 1991, the school offers a rigorous bilingual curriculum. The school culture and environment are enhanced by its diverse mix of students and dedicated teachers who come from different cultures and bring with them different experiences and talents. PART II - ADMISSIONS POLICY AND PROCEDURE

Admissions to Preparatory Years (PY) Section

For Academic Year 2018/19

Application Period

The application period for the PY section has closed, and all school places for both PY1 and PY2 have been filled.

Applicants who are Singapore citizens or Singapore permanent residents and are relocating to Hong Kong may still choose to apply if they are willing to be placed on the waiting list until a vacancy becomes available.

For Academic Year 2019/20

Application Period

The application period for PY section for AY2019/20 closed on 30 September 2018.

Applicants who are Singapore citizens or Singapore permanent residents relocating to Hong Kong may still apply after 30 September 2018. However, applications received after 1 December 2018 are subjected to the availability of school places.

The majority of our students have been with us since PY1, we advise parents who wish for their children to join SISHK to start at PY1.

Admissions Interview

Applicants will be required to sit for Admissions Interviews conducted by the school. Only the children are interviewed and they are expected to go into the interview room without their parents/guardians. Parents are required to select either English or Putonghua as the main language of instruction for the interview. The language not selected will be used as the secondary language for the interview.

Most of the interview will be conducted in the main language and a smaller portion will be conducted in the secondary language.

Admissions Interviews for AY2019/20 PY applicants will be conducted in December 2018.

For Academic Year 2020/21

Application Period

The application period is from 1 August 2018 to 30 September 2019. Applicants who are Singapore citizens or Singapore permanent residents relocating to Hong Kong may still apply after 30 September 2019. However, admissions are subject to availability of vacancies.

The majority of our students have been with us since PY1, we advise parents who wish for their children to join SISHK to start at PY1.

Applicants who are Singapore citizens or Singapore permanent residents relocating to Hong Kong may still choose to apply if they are agreeable to be placed in the wait pool until a vacancy becomes available.

PART III – APPLICATION PROCESS

1. Online applications and hard copy applications are accepted. Please visit http://www.singapore.edu.hk/school-information/admissions to access the online line application webpage or to download a copy of the application form. Please note that once an application has been successfully submitted, it cannot be deferred to another academic year and all fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

2. All hard copy application forms should be duly completed and returned to the Admissions Team Singapore International School (Hong Kong) 23 Nam Long Shan Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong

3. Application forms are to be returned together with the following:

Admissions Report (for primary students only) to be sent by current school directly to SISHK.

Copies of official transcript of grades/report for the final year from each of the applicant’s previous school on his/her performance, conduct and attitude towards learning, if applicable.

One recent passport-sized photograph which must be pasted on the space provided in the application form.

A non-refundable application fee of HK$2,200. Please submit a crossed cheque payable to “THE SINGAPORE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL FOUNDATION LIMITED” together with the application form.

A copy of the applicant’s birth certificate and/or other official documents which indicates his/her date of birth and parents’ information.

Copies of both parents’ identity cards and travel documents (passport) which show their citizenship and signatures.

A copy of the applicant’s proof of citizenship (eg, passport).

4. Applicants for Preparatory Year 1 or 2 will be interviewed in English and Putonghua. Applicants are requested to state their first and secondary language preferences for the interview.

5. Applicants for the Primary and Secondary sections will be required to sit for written and oral Admissions Tests conducted by the school in English, Chinese and Mathematics.

6. Applicants studying in Singapore local schools are required to submit their applications together with their school results for placement purposes. They will not be required to sit for an interview or admissions test, unless decided by the School.

7. Only complete applications will be processed and considered for admissions.

8. Interviews and admissions tests will be conducted at SISHK.

9. Upon notification of acceptance, payments for the Personal/Corporate Debenture, Capital Levy and Entrance Fee (for personal debenture holders) should be sent to the school to secure a place.

10. Applicants need to re-apply if they wish to be considered for admission in another academic year.

PART IV - FEES STRUCTURE

The following payments should be made at the time of registration. Enrolment becomes final only after settlement of the following payments.

1. APPLICATION FEE

A non-refundable application fee of HK$2,200*.

Please note that once an application has been successfully submitted, it cannot be deferred to another academic year and all fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

*Application Fee: With the approval from Education Bureau, the application fee of HK$2,200 is determined on a cost-recovery basis and the user-pay principle applies. The application fee includes admission assessment, interview with candidates, discussion with parents and school tour, if requested.

2. ENTRANCE FEE (ONE-TIME PAYMENT)

A student on Personal Debenture has to pay an Entrance Fee of HK$13,000.

3. DEBENTURE

Each debenture is valid for the enrolment of one student only.

Personal Debenture HK$200,000

Personal Debenture (for students with a Singapore passport)

Corporate Debenture HK$500,000

Corporate Debenture

The Corporate Debenture is valid for eight (8) years. During this period, the registered debenture holder is entitled to appoint one nominee at a time, subject to the terms and conditions of the Corporate Debenture.

Parents should inform the school immediately when the parent ceases to be an employee of the sponsoring company.

Personal Debenture

The Personal Debenture is redeemable six (6) months after the student leaves the school. During the period between the student’s departure from the school and the due date for redemption of the debenture, the “vacant” Personal Debenture can be transferred to a sibling of the student.

a) Students in the Primary, Secondary and IBDP levels who are Singapore citizens will have a fee subsidy of HK$16,100 per annum, which is subject to change.

b) The above payments do not include payment for uniform, school bus, lunch, snacks, school books, stationery and other special co-curricular activities.

c) Tuition fee settlement is compulsory by autopay arrangement.

6. All cheques should be crossed and made payable to “THE SINGAPORE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL FOUNDATION LIMITED”.

7. PAYMENT SCHEDULE

a) School fees are payable on a quarterly basis. Payment schedule is also listed in the Parents’ Handbook and Student Diary.

b) All school fees which are in arrears for seven (7) days after the due date will incur an interest at the rate of 8% per annum, commencing seven (7) days after the due date until full payment is settled. In addition, an administrative fee of HK$200 will be levied.

c) Should the school fees be in arrears for more than three (3) months, the student concerned will be required to leave the school.

d) No school report will be given if a student whose school fees or other payments remain unpaid. The outstanding sum will be deducted from the debenture.

8. WITHDRAWAL

a) An advanced written notification (a minimum of 90 days excluding the summer holidays) must be given, specifying the student’s effective date of withdrawal from school.

b) Failure to comply with 7(a) will incur a levy based on a pro-rata of the shortfall in the required number of days for withdrawal notification. The school fee to be paid will be pro-rated as:

Shortfall in the required no. of days for notification x school fee per term (for the level that the student is at or will be at for the next academic year if withdrawal is at the end of an academic level) / 70 days

c) The withdrawal notification will be deemed as final and irrevocable upon the school’s acknowledgement of it.
