AOR'N - AORT strengthen joint efforts Although the Third Annual AORN Confer- ence theme was "It's a small world," it was a small world in which big decisions were made. AORT delegates voted to accept AORN's proposal. Objective of the proposal - sub- mitted to the AORN House of Delegates at AORN's 18th Annual Congress - is to bring the two associations into closer allied rela- tionship. After two days of serious, thoughtful and emotional discussion, the proposal was ac- cepted by a majority vote. At the first delegate session the AORN proposal was read by Ruth Bramhall, RN, National President. AORT Pres Joan Adams, CORT, then presented the technicians' mod- ified proposal which had previously been approved by the AORN Executive Commit- tee. Both proposals are printed below. As the first delegate session recessed, formal and informal meetings continued. There was much discussion, both pro and con. There was counter and encounter be- tween technician and technician and be- tween technician and nurse. Members of the AORT Advisory Board and AORN members attending the Confer- ence acted as sounding boards, supplied clarification and shared personal feelings and concerns with technicians. The vote was taken June 27 at the sec- ond delegate session, and the modified pro- posal was accepted. AORT will open its Annual Conference Feb 2, 1972, at the Sonesta Hotel, Houston, where all program sessions will be pre- sented. AORT members will view exhibits jointly at the Convention Center with AORN members on Feb 2. All AORN meetings will be in the Albert Thomas Convention Cen- ter. As one technician so beautifully put it after the vote was taken, "Even though I personally opposed this move I congratulate this house of delegates on its behavior and its decision and I shall work diligently to support this action because we must now go forth together with unity of purpose." @ -Betty Thomas, RN August 1971 145

AOR'N - AORT strengthen joint efforts

Although the Third Annual AORN Confer- ence theme was "It's a small world," it was a small world in which big decisions were made.

As one technician so beautifully put it

after the vote was taken, "Even though I personally opposed this move I congratulate

this house of delegates on its behavior and

its decision and I shall work diligently to

support this action because we must now

go forth together with unity of purpose."
