AUGUST Wed. 15th. : HOUSE ATHLETICS “If you don’t act on life, Life will act on you.” OPENING OF THE NEW FOOD TECHNOLOGY WING: Last Wednesday, 27th June, we conducted the opening ceremony for the completed building works. Present as a Government representative was the Labor Minister, Mr Mark Gepp, North Western MLC. Despite best laid plans we could not order the weather and due to the rain we had to move to the Library. Mr Gepp spoke about the Labor government’s commitment to education in the country and quantified it by putting a dollar spend on what the Victorian Labor Government had spent to date. He also made mention that everyone is now part of a new chapter for KTHS with this opening. We are now developing a new beginning for present and future students. Holding the opening in the Library gave us the chance to showcase the school and what we had achieved with the building project. Mr Mark Gepp presented as a well in-formed politician and showed a genuine interest in the school during the tour. Here, some of our pressing issues around termites and the damage they are doing was brought to his attention, as was the condition of the Science Wing. Let’s hope something comes of it! Once again thanks to all the Staff and Students involved in the opening; it would not have happened without your input. Further I would like to make special mention of the Year 12 Food Technology class who did a magnificent with the afternoon tea spread. The Food Technology building is now officially open! You can follow the whole opening ceremony on the school’s Facebook page. L-R: Mr Mark Gegg, School Captains Sophie Peacock & Rhys Ellis with School Principal, Mr Dean Rogers at the unveiling. END OF TERM 2: Today the students received their reports. This is an important milestone for gauging student progress. Please read them carefully and if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact the school. Have a pleasant holiday and come back fully recharged. School recommences Monday, 16 th July.

Dr. Bruce Thorpe

As you may be aware, our School was successful in being selected to participate in the

Victorian Government’s Doctors in Secondary Schools program in 2018.

As part of this program, an adolescent-trained GP (general practitioner) will be employed to work within our school one day a week. As you are also aware, Kerang is currently

experiencing a shortage in qualified GP’s in our area, and subsequently we were unable to secure a GP to date.

I am excited to announce that as of Term Three, Dr. Bruce Thorpe from Bendigo Health will be operating on school grounds one day a week to provide free access to primary health care for secondary students at our school; he will also be accompanied by a Nurse. We are still in the process of finalising their work arrangements with the hours and day yet to be set.

Information regarding the program as well details surround consent and confidentially will be distributed with your child’s reports this afternoon. Further details regarding the

program, the day/hours Dr. Thorpe will be practicing , how students will make

appointments and the management of their attendance will be provided at the beginning

of Term Three.

If you have any questions surrounding the program, please contact Mr. Rogers or myself.

Over the past couple of months, we have

periodically asked all parents/guardians to please keep your students/family records up to date. We are asked by the Education

Department to check Contact Details, Medical Information and Family Occupation to ensure all the details are accurate. The details are

important to protect your child’s safety when trying to contact family and if medical information changes, and email addresses. The

family occupation is directly linked to the funding that K.T.H.S. receives for our students. As with all businesses we are looking at

ensuring we can achieve the best possible outcome for our students and this piece of information is very important. We would

appreciate if all information could be updated and the General Office notified at your earliest convenience at the start of Term 3.
