“I Hope You Know”

To Christians, there is a supper we share, unlike a

regular meal to satisfy hunger of the belly. Some call it the Eucharist, others name it for the time it was first

observed, Passover, some call it open communion, others say closed or full communion. The Holy Spirit

through Paul to the church at Corinth simply named it, “The communion” (I Cor 10:16), “The Lord’s Supper” (I

Cor 11:20). We are content to call it that too. For Christians, on the first day of the week (Acts 2:42,

20:7, I Cor 11:23, 16:2), worshiping with the Lord’s

Supper, the communion of the body and blood of our Lord (I Corinthians 10:16), is part of who we are, and

why we do what we do. One cannot help but take note of the fact that Jesus’ resurrection took place on

Sunday (Mark 16:1; Luke 24:1; John 20:1). Jesus met with His disciples on a Sunday (John 20:19), the

church was established at Pentecost, 50 days after our Lord’s resurrection, a Sunday. The New Testament

church met on Sundays and observed the Lord’s

family is no different.

Do we realize who was actually coming to supper for communion in this church family of Corinth? Do we

understand and grasp the kind of issues they were

dealing with as a church family, and the remedy they were shown to address the issues which were plaguing them spiritually? Do we connect ourselves and relate to their problems, or do we dismiss how they dealt

with these issues because they lived in a different era, a different time, whatever happened then couldn’t

possibly have any relevance to my life today? By the time you come to I Corinthians 11:17, Paul begins to

The problems which plagued the lives of the Christians in Corinth were no different from the problems which plague the lives of Christians today (I Corinthians 6:11). But if we will remember what we were, when we were “washed, sanctified, justified” and what we were made into as a new creature, with a new focus, and new purpose, we will see the newness come to us in such a way that we can know there is hope.

The problems we face are placed into perspective when the Lord’s Supper is placed in priority in our lives. Week after week, when we come to the Lord’s table, to feast with the one Who gave Himself for us, we remember we will be and are forgiven. WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY NIGHTS! We had

another large crowd at last week’s Lighthouse. Thanks to Marty, Robin, Madison

& Lincoln Smith for hosting the night. The enthusiasm spilled right over into class as we

had a lot of discussing over upcoming topics

and ideas for class. Plan now to join us this Wednesday!

SHADOWS, THE JUNIOR HIGH RETREAT was absolutely wonderful! 35 of us

had a super time as we focused on I Timothy 4:12. As we talked about being an example,

we also studied the example we need to

follow. The weekend was filled with games and activities where half, or even all of us,

were blindfolded. Kay Jackson from the School for the Blind came up on Saturday to

lead us through various activities in guiding.

This was very helpful in the way we approach those without their sight as well as how we

use our abilities to lead others. The weekend would not have been without Misty Shelton,

Jonathan & Misty Aydelott, and Marty & Robin Smith for all their cooking, chaperoning, and

involvement in everything. Also, thank you to

Kay Jackson, Cissy Dotson, and Alice Anne Jacobs for their assistance in different parts of

the weekend. A big thanks too to Griffin Elkins, Ben Gilbert, Abigail Loveless, Peyton Mathis, Jake Martin,

Levi Parks, Reagan Qualls, Riley Qualls, Alex Seagraves, Colby

Shelton, and Madision Smith for their help on Saturday. Finally, thanks to Derek Newsom for his continued upkeep of our

beautiful camp and facilities. It was good to be back on the hill for my first retreat there in 15 years. What a blessing we have in

Camp Meribah, its facilities, and take time to see our God who

seeks to lead us! ONE MORE REMINDER...The Father/Daughter Retreat

planned for this weekend, March 17-18, will be postponed because of conflicts. We will work on a date and let you know as

soon as we can of when it will be rescheduled. SUNDAY NIGHT SENIOR HIGH FIRESIDE… Along with our

meal and devo, we will unveil the Retreat Video and hand out the

InstaGrammies. Don’t miss it! “BE AN EXAMPLE to the believers in word, in conduct, in

love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. “ -I Timothy 4:12. Take

these words from Paul to young Timothy and use them to live by.

As we strive to lead others, first let us be led by the One who truly knows the way to salvation and eternal life.
