Heritage Hills Loving Hearts & HandsWednesday, October 19 was the last “Bag & Tag” dress collection

for 2016. Nineteen wonderful ladies gathered to size the dresses, fit each dress with a doll and bag them for distribution to our Dress A Girl partner in Lake Nona. A total of 173 dresses were collected for shipment. As always, there were plenty of ooh’s and aah’s matching the many smiles as the ladies worked and admired the handiwork of their friends and neighbors. Hearts were over-flowing with humble gratitude for the opportunity to do something special for little girls we will probably never meet. Thank you to Kaye Frye, Charlotte Ward, Mary Jane McElroy, Susan Richmond, Carla Bordeleau, Marie DeLucia, Patti Coccaro, Barbara Beaumont, Barbara Stark, Herta Bryans, Bea Kinney, Iris Lopez, Rose Marie Wilburn, Myra Levine, Cyndy Mattack, Linda Smith, Eula Gesiorski, Deanne Kafka and Judy Ricaud!

We had a lot of successes this year; two large collections of dresses & dolls for Dress A Girl, donations of sensory quilts, adult bibs and walker totes to local assisted living facilities, donations of chemo hats and lap throws to UF Health Cancer Center and Florida Cancer Specialists and a special Dress A Girl collection for our “Francy Project” in May. Added to this were our fundraising efforts at the community theater events, our sponsorship of Trivia Night and our participation in the HH Arts & Crafts Day.

Thank you for your support this past year!

Anyone interested in joining our group please callLinda Smith 407-656-0266 or Deanne Kafka 407-347-5085.Our next meeting is planned for Wednesday, January 4, 2017.

When There’sAll-You-Can-Eat Pancakes?

DeLeon Springs MAY be the true location of Ponce DeLeon’s Fountain of Youth, but one thing is for sure - those all-you-can-eat, made-at-the-table pancakes at the Old Spanish Sugar Mill will definitely put a very young smile on your face.

We’re planning a day trip to DeLeon Springs State Park for Sun., January 22. Here’s what we’ll be considering as we make our plans:

• Entrance fee to park - $6 per carload for up to 8 people• 50-minute narrated pontoon boat tour on the Acuera with Captain Frank - $14 Narrated eco/history tour Legends, facts and folk history of the springs Opportunity to spot birds of many kinds and alligators, too • 100-year-old replica of an 1830s sugar cane mill Books and gifts• All-you-can-eat, made-at-the-table pancakes - $4.95 5-grain stone ground batter with honey, syrup or molasses Bananas, apples, blueberries, chocolate chips or pecans added to batter - $1.95 Sides of bacon, ham, sausage patties, eggs - $1.95 Gluten free or vegan batter - $5.95 Sandwiches, salads, burgers and more also available

Our next meeting is Wednesday, November 30, 6:30 PM in the Arts & Crafts Room (a teeny bit early but it counts as our December meeting). We’ll be finalizing our DeLeon Springs details and who’s going, as well as continue talking about additional trip ideas.

The Second Amendment Group of Heritage Hills wishes all the residents a healthy and happy holiday season. With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season upon us, and many of us traveling or having guests for the holiday, we will not be having a December meeting.

Our next meeting will beThursday, January 26, 2017 at 10 AM

in our clubhouse. For Second Amendment Group information and

schedule of activities please contactDavid Mandell at 917-545-5059

or [email protected] happy and healthy New Year to all!

The SecondAmendment Group

The elections are finally over. We now have new representation at various county, state and national levels. Make a point to get out and know your new elected officials.

Clermont has several Red Light Cameras that were installed along highway 50 in 2013. The council has heard the request of the citizens and the contract is not going to be renewed. Starting in January the cameras will be removed.

As a reminder, the first Friday of every month, Clermont has food trucks and music downtown on Montrose.

I am happy to report that the Clermont City Council did not raise the mileage rate this year. The rate will stay the same at 4.2061, which is still one of the lowest tax rates around.

The long awaited new Clermont Police Department is finally open. The new Department is off of Hammock Ridge Rd., next to the Clermont Arts and Recreation Center. The city council is weighing its options on what to do with the old station.

Lake County Rowing has been given permission to install a semi-permanent rowing competition course near the boat house for training and for holding regattas. The course will be a big economic driver for our city. Please contact the Lake County Rowing club or the city if you have any questions.

This fall, Clermont has been asking residents to make a pledge towards recycling. Visit http://www.clermontfl.gov/recycle/ and join our new recycling mascot ECO to make your pledge and receive your Champion Recycler decal.

Clermont and Lake County had a joint ribbon cutting for the opening of the new Fire Station 90/104. It is a joint station that both the city and the county will work from. The new station is located on Hartle Rd. behind Rooms to Go.

The Clermont Performing Arts Center has several shows coming in for the holidays. If you’re interested in attending, tickets are now on sale at www.clermontperformingarts.com.

Light up Clermont will be held December 2nd and 3rd this year. Food trucks and the tree lighting ceremony will be on the 2nd and the Clermont Christmas Parade will be on Saturday the 3rd. The city will also be showing a holiday movie under the stars at Waterfront Park on the 9th. Please join us for the holiday festivities. Call Clermont City Hall if you would like to participate in the parade.

Clermont is now holding its 2nd Citizens Academy that started in October. The Citizens Academy is a great way to learn about our local government and get involved in our community. Contact the city if you’re interested in participating in the spring of 2017.

Please let me know what I can do for you.

Heritage HillsCaribbean & Friends

St. John’s River CruiseThe Heritage Hills Caribbean & Friends Group has successfully completed another unforgettable event. On Thursday, October 13, thirty (30) friends spent a wonderful and relaxing time cruising the St. Johns River on the Barbara-Lee. The group experienced almost everything; delicious food, friendly conversation, entertaining music and dancing. The only disappointment was not seeing a single gator.

Natural Solutions For Healthy Living

Are you ready to live more naturally and possibly feel better, look better, smell better, clean better and eat better? Start by coming to the NEW Natural Solutions For Healthy Living meeting on the first Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2 PM in the ballroom.

Synthetic (man-made) chemicals in food & beverages, cosmetics, skincare & cleaning products accumulate in the body causing illness and allergies over time. Hundreds of diseases can be linked to environmental toxins.

If you are seeking to live a more natural lifestyle, free of unnecessary chemicals, this is the group for you. This will be a SUPPORT and LEARN DISCUSSION group. Everyone can share information and suggestions. In December, we will be discussing safe and natural make-up choices. We will also talk about specific harmful chemicals in popular make-ups to avoid. Come and be a part of this discussion.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 1 PM, in the ballroom. Dates and topics for the first of the year are listed below. These meetings can be a great way for you to support and encourage other Heritage Hills Residents who want to be healthier or stay healthy naturally.

January 4, 2017: Healthy food choicesFebruary 1, 2017: Homeopathic medicineMarch 1, 2017: Choosing necessary & healthy supplementsApril 5, 2017: Safe and effective cleaning products

The end of the year is a time for both looking back and looking forward.

Looking back lets us focus on the good times and remember people and places that have affected our lives.

This year is the second year for Healthy Hints at Heritage Hills. I would like to thank all the people who attended meetings and helped to make both years interesting. The goal of the group was initially to provide support and education to people with diabetes and their families. I was told by many that the topics often could help any person, rather than just those with diabetes, so broadened the focus to healthy living with chronic illness, including diabetes and its complications – heart disease; high blood pressure; stroke; damage to eyes, kidneys, nerves and more.

Looking forward helps us identify opportunities for happiness and think about how to have an even better new year. Healthy Hints first meeting in 2017 will focus on how to plan for a better new year.

There will be no meeting inDecember 2016.

For 2017 the meeting time for Healthy Hints will change to the: 2nd Tuesday at 11:30 AM (until 12:30 PM). It will continue to be in the Toscana Ballroom.

Have a great holiday season. I hope to see familiar faces and new faces next year on January 10th at 11:30 AM.

Contact: Talar Glover, RN, CDE at ntglover.cfl.rr.comif you have questions.

We are a group of residents that are interested in enjoying an evening out for a show, dinner or perhaps a trip.

WE WILL NOT MEET IN DECEMBER. Check your calendar for our meeting date which is normally the second Saturday of the month in the Clubhouse at 10:30. Watch for future events.

On February 25, we will be going to the Garden Theater for a performance of 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. I will be collecting money for tickets for the play at the meeting in January. This is a Saturday night performance. Tickets should not be more than $23. Please email me if you are committed to coming with the subject line - Spelling Bee. For our last event at the Garden Theater, most of us dined at Thai Blossom. If you are interested, I will reserve a spot for our group.

Tuesday Night Shuffleboard Group

Starts at 6:30 PMNo league,

just come & have fun!

Looking for new friends, excitement, people to do things with, places to go, etc? You are welcome to join us on Tuesday nights at 6:30 PM in the Venetian (card) room at the HH Clubhouse.

We would love to have you come and help us plan our events for the fall and winter months. We are a fun loving group and we also try and help each other and the people in our community as well, especially the school children who are homeless or those who cannot afford the school supplies they need.

We have taken many day trips and we are always open to suggestions, so please come and join us and give us your input as well. Hope to see you there at one of our Tuesday night meetings.

SINGLES SOCIAL CLUB

Hand Chimes ClubThe Heritage Hills Chimes Club invites you to join us at our

rehearsals on Wednesday evenings. Reading music is not required. We will teach you and quickly you will enjoy being part of this fun activity.

At the upcoming HH community holiday breakfast, December 10, we will pass out our handchimes to give you an opportunity to ring the chimes along with the singing of Christmas carols. You will not read music but will identify your specific time to chime in while everyone is singing. A word that has been circled or boxed is when your chime is to be played. And when a word is underlined, you are to damp (stop) the sound.

It is a lot of fun. Be sure not to miss this delightful event.

The games are “Non-Tournament type games”, with a $10 buy-in and no “all in” games. Everyone is invited to come out and have fun and join the Texas Hold’em group. There are no reserved seats.

Contact Stephen Cluney @ 352-404-0050for more information. Open to ALL residents.

Experience the passion of the sixties as Annie Russo tenaciously takes on the love of life in the changing world around her. For every one who had gone off to fight in Viet Nam, more than a hundred more were still at home, struggling with its effects. Misnomered as ‘rebels without a cause,’ the entire generation was rebellious alright, but lacked no shortage of causes. Portrayed as living fast and dying young was also false. They were dying young without even getting the chance to live fast. And so, faced with no escape, the entire society rose up in anger while Annie Russo was the quintessential face of it all.

SANTA’SSERVICE

Saturday, December 10Think about your “Christmas Kindness” now that it’s already

December. In the spirit of Christmas, we at Heritage Hills would like to collect food (which will feed the needy in our greater Clermont area) for the Agape Fund at the First United Methodist Church. Santa Claus is coming to Heritage Hills on Saturday, December 10, to see you and to help us collect food. You better watch out! Don’t be naughty, but be nice and set out non-perishable food for Santa’s elves to pick up between 1 PM and 5 AM on 12/10/16. Santa Claus and his elves will be coming through your neighborhood (rain or shine) to pick up your food donations. Please check your food donation’s expiration date. If it has expired it is probably safe for you to eat, but we cannot share the expired food with someone else. Thanks for your consideration. Please try to put your non-perishable food on your driveway just before 1 PM. It will help the elves if you put the food on your driveway near the street and turn on your coach lights. Santa does not want to miss your kindness. If you prefer, there will be a donation box in the Clubhouse after December 1 where you may share your non-perishable food. The food is going to help the needy in the greater Clermont area. On December 10, listen for the Christmas music, watch for the parade, come out and wave to Santa.

Santa Claus, of course, thanks you and promises to get your food donations to the needy in a timely manner. Happy Holidays!

Heritage Hills Library The Library is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a book or watch

TV. We also have a community computer available for your use. The continuous flow of books and magazines is very much appreciated.

As the Library is staffed by three resident volunteers, Helen Wunderlich, Debbie Running and Gail Steinberg, we would greatly appreciate your leaving returns, new books and magazines in the baskets for us to shelve. Believe it or not, the books are in order by author and then alphabetically by title. There are mainly best selling fiction books available. There are other books on the counter that could be biographies, cook books, travel books, c/d’s or books on c/d for your reading or listening pleasure.

Our Book Club Reading List is out for 2017. If you have any of the following books and wish to donate them, please contact me. I will keep a list to lend them out to the club (list is in order by month):The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency by Alexander McCall SmithThe Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen BrowerMrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker by Jennifer ChiaveriniA Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler19 Minutes by Jodi PicoultAlan Turing: The Enigma Man by Nigel HawthorneThe Red Tent by Anita DiamantThe Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk KiddWhen Books Went to War by Molly GuptillAmerica’s First Daughter by Stephanie Dray & Laura KamoleNobody’s Fool by Richard RussoThe Lost Garden by Helen Humphreys

Dec. 1 • 1 PM • Venetian Room, ClubhouseDecember book: At the Water’s Edge by Sara Gruen

When you need a break from all the holiday stuff - put your feet up and relax with a book - wash away all the “To-Dos” with one of the best-seller period pieces Sara Gruen is famous for. You’ll travel with a trio of privileged characters from Philadelphia during WWII to an isolated inn in the Scottish Highlands on Loch Ness. Definitely will take your mind off things.

At our meeting on December 1, we will thoroughly examine the plot, characters, what WAS the author thinking, etc., with our usual insightfulness and humor. Come join us!

For more info on the Heritage Hills Book Club, contact Pat Curren 352-404-8437 or Dor Remsen [email protected]. New members are always welcome!
