In this journey called Anutone, we may come a long way but haveonly just started.

In the 1990s, we pioneered the resurrection of the woodwool board

industry that was being buried by its very practitioners. We did thisby manufacturing world-class boards with a host of variants tomeet customer needs. Its continued use in modern multiplexes in

metro cities by top operators is testimony.

In this decade, we have been pioneering an acoustics revolutionbenefiting the entire ecosystem. We are doing this by injectingscientific temper to the practice of architectural acoustics right

from design, supply, install to site testing. Growing awareness ofthe subject and acousticians on board project teams is testimony.

For the coming decade, 2010s, we are pioneering the walls and

ceiling industry. It already exists. So how does one pioneer? Products, systems and services related to walls and ceilings are still in theirnascent stage with current international trends at least a decade away.

This is what needs to be bridged, albeit the Asian way, the ‘glocal’approach that Anutone is pioneering.

Since 2007, Anutone has been introducing a slew of products withview to realising our aim to transform the wall and ceiling industry

in the coming decade. There is something exciting happening atAnutone on a daily basis and it became necessary to share new

knowledge with the ecosystem on the many changes, innovations andtrend-setting concepts that bring a constantly evolving portfolio of

products, systems and services to the market and the industry.

Dear Patron,

The e-design newsletterand a journey called Anutone

Hence the idea of e-design - a weekly newsletter from Anutone, everyTuesday since April 2009, that provides one interesting fact, facet orfeature about Anutone walls and ceilings. Anutone’s e-design has evoked

an overwhelming response such that we are encouraged to publish acollection of one year of 52 editions for the benefit of architects,

consultants, contractors and customers.

While we are very bullish on our recent walls and ceilings foray wehave not forgotten our roots. e-board is our fortnightly newsletterevery alternate Friday that highlights our original business -

woodwool boards. And for acoustics and noise we will commence e-coustic and e-noise every fortnight on alternate Fridays that

highlights our products for this purpose.

Thank you for your attention and patronage. We look forward to

enjoying the same for the coming decade. We say, ‘ChallengeYourself’, since exciting times are ahead that will surely ‘make

you feel good’!

Yours truly,

Team Anutone

Anutone presents yet another fabulous choice in fabricwalls with modular panels for better, quieter interiors.Synthfab panels boast a core of SynthHD, Anutone’spopular brand of polyester-based infill, and a smartwrap of SpunFR, an inherently flame-retardant fabric.

The panel core is the most important feature. SynthHDis thermally-bonded (no resins), chemically-freepolyester fibres fused under pressure to form a high-density wadding that is rigid with sharp lines. More, it isEHS-compliant as it is VOC-free and does not itch, irritate or lower the IAQ.

Anutone Synthfab is available in standard sizes of 600/1200 x 600 / 1200 and a thickness of 25mm foradhesive install or 30mm for Z-clip install.

AnutoneSynth is thermally-bonded, chemically-freepolyfibre blankets used for thermacoustic linings inceilings, panellings, partitions and floor cavities. Theproduct is white in colour and pleasant to look, touchand feel. It does not itch or irritate, making it very safeand healthy to use.

AnutoneSynth is dimensionally stable ensuringconsistent thermacoustic values for the lifecyle of thebuilding. It is made from recycled polyfibres and isrecyclable again. That it also conserves energy inbuildings lowering airconditioning and heating costs,it is very, very green!

AnutoneSynth replaces traditional insulation that tendsto itch and irritate. Traditional insulation is resin-bonded and emits odour. It ‘lumps down’ over timelosing its insulation value. Thus, the initial higherinvestment in AnutoneSynth fetches matching returnsover time!

• Rolls of 600mm width - easy handling

• Non-toxic, non-allergic, non-irritant, odourless

• No protective measures required for installation

• Dimensionally stable ensuring thermacousticvalues for lifecycle of building

• Readily available - large quantities in short time

HIGHLIGHTS

Polyfibre as infill in quilts, outdoor clothing etc. is proven in the toughest of conditions like polar ice caps fordecades – keeping cold out and warmth in. Anutone Interiors brings the same goodness of polyfibre tobuildings with not just thermal but also acoustic comfort.

Use of eco-friendly materials is the mantra for sustainable development. AnutoneSynth does for insulation whatCFC-free gasses have done for refrigeration. No impact on environment, healthy and sustainable.

Real Metric

Architects have been wistful of all things being metric inbuildings so as to keep things simple, very simple. Theyconceptualize buildings on 1x1m gridlines and aresuccessful in getting it built that way including externalglazing and cladding, internal partitions etc. But when itcomes to ceilings they come a cropper.

Ceilings earlier came in 2’x2’ size which when the worldturned metric was 610x610mm. Manufacturers fine-tuned this to 600x600mm or in multiples like1200x1200mm but this never matched the1000x1000mm gridlines of everything else in thebuilding.

Architects can now rejoice! Anutone introduces truemetric ceilings from the Serge series:

Widths (mm) - 500, 1000

Lengths (mm) - 1000, 2000, 3000

Ceiling gridlines can match building gridlines for perfectharmony. What you conceptualise is what you get!

What’s more, here is the icing on the cake! Anutonecan supply wall panels too in true metric from its Softor Stretch series:

Widths (mm) - 1000, 1500

Lengths (mm) - 1000, 2000, 3000

Acoustic Gypsum CeilingsPlaza for grid & Designpanel 900 for span

Acoustic gypsum has virtually invisible microperf andis introduced to the India market by Anutone withDanogips of Denmark. It can no longer be perceivedas an expensive ceiling solution - grid or span - asAnutone has introduced two value products that ensureconsiderable cost savings with no reduction infunctional performance!

Plaza Pixel is an economical alternative toBelgravia Pixel for 2x2 grid ceilingsPlaza Pixel ceiling is best highlighted by using a narrowgrid system like Skelet O15 or T15. Plaza Pixel is fastand easy to mount as all edges remain concealed abovethe grid. Plaza Pixel is also used as a margin panel forBelgravia Pixel. Plaza Pixel being 40% less expensivethan Belgravia Pixel is a boon for value projects.

Designpanel 900 is an economical alternativeto Designpanel 1200 for full-span ceilingsDesignpanel Pixel results in full-span, seamless ceilings.Since the 1200 model is bulky to handle and perceivedas expensive, Anutone introduces the 900 model in avery easy 900x2700mm size that is popular across theworld and is 20% less expensive.

Readily available! Both Plaza Pixel and Designpanel 900 Pixel are readilyavailable with Anutone for offices, hotels, hospitals, malls.

Architectural spaces are there to be designed. The ideas belong to the designer. Anutone can enabledesigners capture ideas and turn them from concept to reality. Think islands in the sky and CarnivalFloats is the reality. Yes! Whether it is for initial design or an afterthought, Carnival Floats with SkeletInfinity is for all seasons. Now all the more with a special feature to assemble on floor and hoist up!

Creating light coves, ceiling clouds, floating islands,

projected transitions and design accents with modular

tiles suspended on grid or a seamless finish with

gypsum is easy and simple thanks to the innovation of

Carnival Floats. Functionally it can be superior too as

Carnival Floats provide greater sound absorption

than a continuous ceiling of the same surface area

because the soundwaves are absorbed from both

surfaces of the float – the exposed bottom surface

and the non-exposed top surface.

• Very high aesthetic value and visual appeal

• Superior acoustical performance – both absorbsound surfaces

• Flexibility in layout and sizing of ceiling floats

• Multi level – imparts the illusion of overheadmovement

• Integration of multi products & large format panels

FEATURES

And now here comes the icing on the cake!Because of the Primary Carrier as a special feature, Carnival Floats can be assembled on the floor and thenhoisted up thus making it very easy and very quick for the contractor to install ceiling islands at project sites!

Strand was formerly known as Natural SoundSmooth or NSS, SoundSmooth, Smooth.Due to legacy the Strand brand will transit through 2010/2011 and co-exist with the previousnames.

Further, due to the wide array of other wall and ceiling products now

available from Anutone, the previous brand, ‘Smooth’, for plain

woodwool board is a misnomer to a newbie as Anutone expands into

new markets around the world. ‘Smooth’ would be more appropriate

to Serge Aquila or Belgravia Regula or even Sonator Pearl (all unperf

design+development team be far behind? Everybody wants

it slim, superslim! After Size Zero laptops, smartphones,

televisions and ramp models, comes the ultra-slim, ultra-

chic Soak series of fabric-wrapped wall panels.

Soak Cordura, Cord & Plane earlier had a limitation of

minimum thickness, 20mm. This was due to kerfed long

edges to receive H-Spline. This also resulted in a site

problem of panels being able to be dismantled from one

corner only. Now to meet the demand from designers for

space-saving slimmer panels, Anutone has innovated to

result in 10mm thick panels that can be hung on walls

and more importantly dismantled from any point. Also all

edges are fully finished - so panels can be installed

discretely as floating islands!

For additional airgap behind these Size Zero panels,

Anutone’s recent innovation of a very slim Strut channel,

the CC10, comes in useful (see e-news # 24 dated 22

September 2009). And if this still does not satisfy you for

sound absorption, Anutone’s very slim Synth 5x10 and

10x10, fitted in the 10mm airgap, do the honours!

Launching January 2010!

Fabric-wrapped wall panels in

Denoted thickness are of base panel only. Please add fabric thickness and Z-clip/bar thickness to panel thickness to arrive at installeddepth of system from base wall. For example, Soak Cord 10mm would mean minimum 18mm installed depth of system. Soak Cord on CC10with/without Synth would mean 28mm installed depth. For true 10mm system thickness only go for Slim PNS or Slim Compo from Anutone!

Sastau, Tikau, Bikau – the Marwari maximLow-cost, long-life, saleable – the Anutone maxim

The popular Marwari maxim and that of successful business communities across the world has been the

same. It is time tested and proven. Anutone believes in this, and endows its products with similar attributes.

Consider Subtex Ceilings. For the best performance in white gridceilings these soft-fibre products are low-cost with a long life cycle, and can be easily re-used.

Or consider Serge Ceilings. Being metal based, they offer considerableresale value, and are durable for rugged environments with costs linkedto the London Metal Exchange!

Or even Belgravia Ceilings. Made from very high-quality gypsum, thisEuropean product brings enduring values of low lifecycle cost and longinstalled life. More, it is relocatable or recyclable.

And what about Strand Ceilings? 25 years and counting at many installs! This natural, low-cost product lasts generations, and can be easilyrelocated. Anutone has a robust recycling plan.

Microperfs & megapanels – yeh kya hai? When MP3 is not music and 1 is more than 12!

MicroperfsMicroperfs is the new art of minutely perforating solidslike metals, woods and plasters. And at 3mm, it is asclosest as you get to perforating 12mm thick fibreboardsand plasterboards.

MP3 is the new acronym for Micro Perforated 3mm onSalon Spots wood ceilings. With a rich wood grain finishand microperfs that render them almost invisible froma distance, such ceilings arouse visual excitement withno ugly holes marring the show. Welcome to the newaesthetic!

Check out our other microperfs. Pixel 3x3mm squareperfs in Designpanel, Belgravia and Plaza for gypsum-based ceilings and Auriga 0.7mm perfs for Serge metalceilngs rendering them almost solid. Add to the newaesthetic!

MegapanelsMegapanels from Anutone are giant-size panels, andat 1.2x3.6m (4’x12’) they are as large as it gets.

So, instead of 12 tiles of standard size 600x600mm(2’x2’) you install 1 megapanel – 4.32m2 in one go! Lessseamlines, less work, faster install, lower overall costs.

Available in ACT GLD, ACT KLH and Subtle Textureseries with Skelet Z-bar mounting. Size does matter –1 is more than 12 - the new arithmetic!!

Save life, prevent fire, use AnutoneAll products are fire-rated to perform in an emergency

People killed while trying to escapefrom fire in a multilevel building.People hospitalised due to smokeingestion while escaping from amultiplex on fire. These have beenrecent headlines, unfortunate andunnecessary.

Unnecessary because if walls andceilings systems carried the properfire-rating it would have retarded flame

spread and provided enough time forpeople to escape or arrive to help. Ofcourse, there are other factors too likefurnishings and flooring. But walls andceilings play a major roll as electricalwiring is concealed behind these, andshort circuiting is almost always thecause for fire in buildings.

Most project teams look at fire rating ofthe product only while what is needed

REACTION TO FIRE

Flaming - ISO 1182

Ignitability - BS 476 Part 5

Fire propagation - BS 476 Part 6

Surface spread - BS 476 Part 7

Smoke density - ASTM E662

is a holistic approach and a check onthe fire rating of the system. Often theproduct is fire-rated but to cut costs, thesupporting suspension is local or notfire-rated ,and as a result the ceilinginstalled does not perform in case offire. It is another matter that the productthough specified as FR is substitutedin the last moment in favour of non-FRdue to various considerations.

A case in point is one of ourmost popular products, Slats. The FR grade can be moreexpensive by 25% and so itmay be specified but in the lastminute at the project executionstage non-FR is favoured. Therisk is not to the project teambut the space users! Hence itis necessary to sensitise theecosystem to adopt safe fireand life safety practices in theselection and installation ofwall and ceiling systems. Notjust the product but the system!

Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy – what else?A plenum so cluttered, it requires a genius of a ceiling!

Advances in user technologiesmeans building plenums are gettingincreasingly cluttered and hence aceiling is becoming a very importanttechnical interface in user spaces.

What clutters the plenum? ACducting, mechanical ventilation, pneumatic piping, power supplies, fire safety plumbing, IT cabling etc.

What does a ceiling interface? ACgrilles and diffusers, luminaries, fire sprinklers, smoke detectors, microphones and loudspeakers, wireless antennae, CCTVcameras etc. Plus columns, wallsand partitions.

And what may be suspended fromthe ceiling? Signages, uplighters, display screens, relocatablepartition systems etc.

Any one of the above services canbe demanding on a ceiling but thepresence of so many makes it allthe more complex and challenging.Hence ceiling design requiresextensive and closeco-ordination from the designstage. And Anutone can be yourknowledge partner in this regard.

Hospital CeilingsHospital ceilings are perfect examplesof plenum clutter.

Consider the above services vying forspace in the plenum and you knowwhy Anutone ceilings are necessary.
