Information on AnorexiaInformation on AnorexiaAnorexia is an eating disorder where humans begin to behave irrationally toward their body weight. There are four main parts to Anorexia-resistance to maintain normal body weight, fear of weight increase, denial of seriousness in low body weight, and loss of monthly periods. A person with Anorexia often finds herself overweight nevertheless all the weight she/he lost previously. This disease can be vital if not treated because the human body would lose all fluids. A very common action if Anorexia is present is vomiting your food. This is extremely dangerous because everything in your stomach(if anything) would be released.

effects -hair loss, infertility, stunted growth, osteoporosis, heart problems, kidney failure, and death. Other effects of anorexia include tooth decay and gum damage from malnutrition and vomiting, and damage to the esophagus and larynx from acid reflux. Anorexia can also lead to depression, severe mood swings, and thoughts of suicide.

Statistics-Statistics-Females- 0.5% - 3.7% of females suffer

from Anorexia Nervosa in their lifetime-one out of every one hundred young women between ten and twenty are starving themselves, sometimes to death

Males- 10% of people with anorexia are male. This is because men are ashamed of skinny weak bodies and want to be powerful. 50% of girls between the ages

of 13 and 15 believe they are overweight40-60% of high school girls diet30-40% of junior high girls are concerned about their weight80% of 13 year old girls have dieted40% of 9-year-old girls have dieted85% of patients develop this disorder between the ages of 13 and 18

20% of people suffering from anorexia will prematurely die from complications related to their eating disorder, including suicide.5 – 10% of anorexics die within 10 years after contracting the disease18-20% of anorexics will be dead after 20 years30 – 40% ever fully recover – that’s less than half!

Hospitalization- necessary to prevent starvation, suicide, or a medical crisis. -Dangerously thin anorexics- need to be hospitalized until they reach a less critical weight.

Discovery/OriginDiscovery/OriginDoctors in England first discovered anorexia

in the 1870s. Catherine of Siena only ate herbs, and sometimes she would take a twig and stick it down her throat so that she could vomit. The Ancient Greeks were also bulimics, and they binged and purged more than one time every day

Anorexia was discovered concretely in 1964 by an English doctor named Richard Martan but back then, it was a rare disease.
