The Collegewould like to strive for a closer relationship with our mainland counterparts. A Joint Symposium Session,co-organised by the Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital and the Hong Kong College of Cardiology, and a Visual Presentation Session organised by the College were held in the 8th South China InternationalCongress of Cardiology on 30 March - 2 April 2006 in Guangzhou, China. The 14th Annual ScientificCongress of the College held on 5-7 May this year was a great success. An increasing participation wasdrawn from the professional community in Hong Kong, Mainland China and other countries. TheCardiovascular Interventional Summit / Hong Kong was successfully held on 23-25 June 2006. It wasregarded as one of the main local and international cardiac interventional procedures meetings of2006. A number of local scientific programmes were also organised by the College throughout theyear.

Apart from the scientific programmes, the College was also actively involved in community projectsto promote cardiovascular health. The Jump Rope for Heart Program continues its recruitment ofschool children for promotion of heart health through rope skipping. A number of projects forpromotion and study of heart health in the community were also launched. The World Heart Day,celebrated on 24 September and 8 October this year, was the yearly climax of our heart healthpromotion to the general public.

Regarding the training of local cardiology trainees, the College continues its involvement in theHong Kong Heart Foundation Cardiology Training Fellowship Programme, which supports localcardiology trainees to undergo advanced cardiology training in world renowned centers overseas.

The diversified and calendar-full activities organised by the College would not be successfully heldwithout the dedication and active participation of its members, support of friends and the contributionof leading practitioners and academics both locally and abroad. The Council would like to take thisopportunity to express its gratitude to them and will pledge to continue its mission in the years tocome.
