Pastor’s Message

A Catholic school brings life and energy to the parish.”

Dear Friends of St. Louise School, St. Louise Parish is planning for our 60th anniversary in 2020, and the next year 2021 will be the 60th anniversary of our school. Both the parish and school have gone through many changes since then!

As with most Catholic schools in our country, women religious once ran our school. For us, it was the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace. The current Pastoral Center, where our parish office building is currently located, was the convent. Because of the sisters’ generous service, tuition in 1961 was only $140 a year! The Parish began on February 14, 1960, and by the fall of 1961 the new church and school buildings were up and running. We would not even be able to get through the permitting

process that rapidly today, let alone raise funds necessary to build the buildings at current construction costs.

Despite the many changes over the years, the mission of teaching and forming children with the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ remains constant. Today, some people say that the changes that have happened over the years are so drastic that it is no longer possible for many parents and parishes to continue to afford a Catholic education. Without a doubt, the challenges are great. On the other hand, I often think, “We can’t afford to not have Catholic Schools.” I think this especially when I look at our the team of altar servers for Sunday Mass, the people who serve in leadership and various ministries, the youth who are involved in Life Teen. I realize that many of them are still involved or were once involved at St. Louise School. In addition, the seminarians of our Archdiocese and others who work for the Church often attended a Catholic school in their parish. The life of our Church depends upon the success of a strong Catholic education!

If you contributed to St. Louise School in the past year, thank you!

I invite all of you, whether you have given to St. Louise for years or if this is your first time to consider a financial gift, to be generous with the measure that God has blessed you. Your gift together with that of many others will make all the difference in the lives of our children at St. Louise and will serve to build up our wonderful, beautiful Catholic Faith. The mission of the Church is to go out and serve with the same love that we have received from God by listening to God’s word and celebrating Christ’s presence in the sacraments. St. Louise School helps our parish to live that mission.

Be assure of my gratitude for your continued support and generosity and a special remembrance in my prayers.

With gratitude to our loving God,

Fr. Gary Zender Pastor

Annual Report † 2017 - 2018

“We are proud to be able to truly educate the ‘whole’ child.”

Dear Parishioners, School Parents, and Friends,This Annual Report is affirmation of the great things going on at St. Louise Parish School. As you read all the names of our supporters and the news about all our successes, I’m sure you’ll realize that we have something special here at St. Louise. We have an educational community within a faith community, whose members put the future of children at the top of their priority list. Of course, we know this is not new.

Since 1961, our school has been a key component of St. Louise Parish — providing an excellent education with a Catholic foundation to the Church’s future generation. This is why our parish school exists.

Any school can teach children how to use computers, solve math problems, or write stories. But only a few schools are able to do this at a high level, while at the same time integrating Gospel values throughout the school day, imparting these values by fostering a love and knowledge of God’s Word and of Catholic tradition, and celebrating our faith through liturgies and prayer.

We are publishing this Annual Report for you, as an acknowledgment of your support and an appreciation of your gifts to St. Louise Parish School. One significant accomplishment I’d like to point out is due to successful fund raisers these past few years and generous parish and school donors, we have grown the Father Phil Wallace Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund to over $2 million! This allows us to draw over $100,000 in interest-income each year to put solely toward tuition assistance grants given to families who would otherwise not be able to afford sending their children to a Catholic school.

Another accomplishment is we were able to receive enough financial donations to begin the construction of the final four classrooms on our second floor in 2017. Then this fall, as we celebrated our 1st anniversary of having all the K-8 grade levels together in the main building, we made the final payment on the construction loan. So, we have no mortgage!

Briefly speaking to our past year’s successes beyond finances, our junior high math team won the Bishop Blanchet Math Tournament in 2018 for the third year in a row, the math team won the 2017 Seattle Prep Math Tournament, and our speech team also continued to win accolades throughout the 2017–18 school year. In extra-curriculars, our CYO teams in cross country, track, soccer, and volleyball all won championships in 2018, and our drama program put on a high school-quality production of Honk, Jr.

As we begin 2019, the school faculty and I ask for your continued support through your repeated prayers and volunteer help, as well as through your generous donations to the Father Phil Endowment Fund and the Annual School Gift Campaign.

Sincerely,

Dan Fitzpatrick Principal p.s. The Annual School Gift Campaign has just begun, and I’d appreciate you reading the enclosed letter and returning the enclosed pledge envelope. You may also donate online at stlouiseschool.org/asgc.

Thank you so much for your donations in 2018 to our Father Phil Wallace Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund. Through your generous, continual donations year-after-year, the Father Phil Wallace Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund has now grown to over $2 million! This money is invested, and has created $100,000 of annual interest-income that is solely used to give tuition assistance to approximately 10% of our students, who come from families in need who otherwise would not be able to afford a Catholic school education.

Approximately $2.6 million (78% of our total revenue) is brought in from the tuition and fees paid by school parents. Fund raisers account for $500,000 (17% of total revenue) with our two largest fund raisers being the Annual School Gift Campaign (ASGC) and the Auction. Both ASGC and the Auction are significant contributors and a tremendous help to total revenue. Additionally, it is important to note that revenue dollars received from matching gifts from many of our donors’ employers are large contributors of fund raising revenue. Investment earnings from the Fr. Phil Wallace Endowment Fund were specifically targeted to provide financial aid.

The school's largest expenditure are the salaries and benefits for our excellent teachers and staff, totaling over $2.7 million (84% of our total revenue). During the 2017–18 school year, there were $160,000 in expenses to purchase textbooks, instructional supplies, and student-support services. Financial aid to students reached almost $100,000, which assisted approximately 10% of the student body.

fund-a-need

We are extraordinarily grateful to the generous donors who supported Fund-a-Need during “It’s a Wonderful Life at St. Louise,” our school auction. Through the considerable support provided by the families below, we will be able to complete the two needs in our planned Facilities Fund. The first project improves security by adding a secure entrance, key cards and new cameras on campus. The second project is improving the Parish Hall for our musical production. By adding new lighting, stage and sound technology, we’ll be able to bring our school musical back to St. Louise. Also, we will add 100 more chairs so guests have a place to sit when they come to concerts, programs, and the play. Thank you for the support!
