Happy 2019! We feel blessed this year to have had the opportunity to pause and reflect on our work in 2018 and are excited to share the resulting Annual Report with you.

2018 was a year of intensive assessment coupled with the creation and implementation of new systems with a strategic focus on moving BGCGCV from a solid organization to an exceptional one.

We are happy to report that, organizationally, we made

some big moves! We grew the diversity of our

Board of Governors by adding new board members, a significant number of which were women, increasing our ability to make informed decisions.

Wediversifiedourfundingsources, including securing a 500% increase in grant funding, in order to strengthen sustainability.

We streamlined our operations, focusing on efficiencies and productivity, saving $350,000 in expenses and freeing up staff time to focus on better serving youth and families.

Wecreatedarobustvolunteerprogram, increasing the total number of adult role models and mentors surrounding our members. The robust nature of our revamped volunteer program increases the opportunities our members have to make strong connections with these adults, in support of their growth and development.

Inspired by our progress, we are hitting the ground running in 2019.

Our goal is to increase the consistency and quality of all aspects of the Club Experience for kids and their families.

We are thrilled to be taking a major step in that direction in March of 2019, through the opening of the stand-alone John L. Notter Family Boys & Girls Club on the campus of Redwood Middle School. This brand-new, 8,000 square foot facility enables us to nearly triple the number of youth we can serve at this location. After opening, the new building will have the capacity to house a minimum of 250 kids from Redwood Middle School as well as elementary students throughout Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, and Westlake Village!

We will also be taking a deep dive into strategies to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of our staff. The goals of this effort are to show our amazing staff how much we appreciate them, reduce employee turnover, and ensure the positive adult connections our member youth forge each day with staff remain strong and consistent.

This report is designed to help you get a better understanding of the numbers related to our actions and the direction we are taking for 2019 and beyond. We are also eager to show appreciation for our donors, whom make these exciting changes possible, by recognizing their generous support throughout this report.

Thank you for your partnership. Please join us as we continue to move forward to greater excellence.

Sincerely,

Dear Stakeholders

Linda Catlin Chairman of the Board (2018)

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley opened its doors in 2003 and has become one of the largest in Southern California, and one of the top 100 Boys & Girls Clubs out of the 4,000+ in the US. Located within Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, we serve communities from ten Club facilities.

Clubs provide a safe place to play, laugh, discover and learn for youth in grades K-8. We offer before and after school programs, summer camps, and year-round sports leagues. Caring, trained staff and volunteers work with our members in supervised, safe, and structured environments. They foster a sense of belonging, responsibility, civility and civic engagement, helping youth build new skills to succeed and receive recognition for their accomplishments. No child is turned away due to their inability to pay.

Our MissionEnhance the lives of young people

and their families by providing a positive environment that

cultivates academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character,

and citizenship.

“The Boys and Girls Club is like a 2nd home to me!”- Aiden T., 8th grader

ProgramImpact

In 2018 we began a comprehensive retooling of the programming at our Club sites so that every youth we serve has the knowledge, skills, and support to increase their resilience to trauma, self-esteem, social functioning, and life skills, and can recover from any life difficulties or conflict.

To create even safer spaces, we actively engaged in improvement and achieved 100% compliance with safety recommendations as set forth by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. These safety measures include AEDs in every Club, thorough procedures for transportation and bathroom safety, and clear delineation of staff interaction with members.
