ANNUAL REPORT 2015-16
Ladies and Gentlemen, a very good morning to you all.
Sh. Dinkar Burathoki, Hon’ble Director (Higher Education) and our chief guest for the
day, distinguished guests, parents and guardians, members and office bearers of PTA
and OSA, friends from the print and electronic media, my associates from the college
family, CSCA executive, and dear students, it is a privilege for me to extend a very warm
welcome to you all on the occasion of the 48th Annual Prize Distribution function of
Govt. College, Una.
The College is about to complete five decades of its journey very shortly. And it
all started as a dream. Govt. College Una envisioned the dream of establishing a
progressive educational institution; a college that would mould and guide future
generations of enlightened minds. It’s been a gradual evolution of this dream and many
novel concepts have been added over a period of time. It has been an enjoyable journey
and it continues to be so. A special gratitude is rightfully due, to all individuals who
have played a part in the development of this institution and made it possible to
transform a dream into reality. The process is unending and it is with a sense of
satisfaction and humility that I stand here in front of an august audience, playing my
part, of underlining the achievements of this college for the academic session 2015-16.
The college is fast emerging as an institution with distinction. It boasts of a sprawling
campus fully equipped to accommodate the ever increasing number of students. The
student strength this year is 3469, with 1222 boys and 2247 girls. 48 teachers and 22
members of ministerial and other support staff are working here to cater to the needs
of students. Besides undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Science, Post
Graduate students in English, Pol. Science and Commerce also benefit from the existing
facilities. Professional courses – MBA, MCA, BBA, BCA and PGDCA are being run
successfully under the aegis of HEIS, a registered society.

ACADEMICS:-
The academic scene on the college campus is as vibrant as ever, with students
continuing to take advantage of the opportunities on offer in the college. There always
is the need for constant upgradation of the facilities and fresh changes have been
incorporated to improve the academic atmosphere of the college. Sound systems have
been installed in classrooms. 10 new rooms have been provided with overhead
projectors and screens. Teachers have now been equipped with laptops so that they can
use technology in their lectures. Internet facilities have been provided in the
laboratories and ours is a wi-if campus now. In addition to classroom learning, students
are being exposed to different aspects of personality development through
participation in the activities of clubs and societies, thus providing them with a platform
to explore and expand their intellectual horizons. The results of our students indicate
that they do not lag behind when it comes to competing with other colleges of the state.

NEEDS OF THE COLLEGE/VISION FOR THE FUTURE
In order to provide cutting edge education, it is imperative to adopt a futuristic
approach. The college has lined up some projects for the future which are important
for its overall development.
a) Introduction of various professional courses has led to the need for construction
of girls as well as boys hostel.
b) The college owns the largest land area in Himachal Pradesh. Therefore, more
residences for the teaching and non-teaching staff should be constructed in the existing
Teacher’s Colony.
c) Keeping in view the record breaking achievements in the field of sports, a sports
stadium is the need of the hour.
d) Due to retirements and various other reasons there is a paucity of staff in the
administrative department. The existing staff strength is inadequate and more posts
are required to be created in order to handle the growing needs in an efficient manner.
e) Social science subjects, especially Political Science and History, attract a large
number of students. The present number of posts in the said departments is not
sufficient. One vacancy in Political Science has not been filled up for more than a year.
Atleast one more post needs to be created in the Dept. of History. There is an urgent
need for a Tabla teacher/ Instructor in the Dept. of Music.
Last but not the least, I shall be failing in my duty, if I do not record a vote of thanks to
the District Administration, various govt. departments, Media, Social organizations and
distinguished personalities who have extended a helping hand from time to time.
Sir, your august presence as Chief Guest for the 48th Annual Prize Distribution Function
has given this college an occasion to rejoice and rededicate itself in its quest for
